Live from New York, it’s Saturday night! Season 48 of Saturday Night Live premiered October 1, 2022, but because of the ongoing writers strike, the Lorne Michaels-created series had to wrap up early for the season. Pete Davidson was set to return to the show that made him famous to make his hosting debut with musical guest Lil Uzi Vert on May 6. But that isn’t happening anymore, thanks to the writers strike. Kieran Culkin and Jennifer Coolidge were set to host the final two episodes of the season, with musical guests Labrinth and Foo Fighters, respectively, before the writers strike squashed those plans, as well.
To kick off this season, Top Gun: Maverick actor Miles Teller hosted the Oct. 1 episode with Kendrick Lamar as the musical guest. “It’s really exciting. You’re working with the absolute best of the best, so you feel well taken care of, but it is, it’s a lot. It’s a whirlwind,” Miles told NBC4 ahead of his big debut.
This season of SNL was missing a handful of cast members who announced their departures from the show. Chris Redd also confirmed to PEOPLE that he was saying goodbye to the show in Sept. 2022.
