Tragedy hit the set of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ on Feb. 20, when beloved crew member Sarah Jones was killed in a train accident while filming a movie in Jesup, Georgia. Now, ‘TVD’ stars Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder have taken to social media to let the world know just how special Sarah was to the cast.
Sarah Jones died tragically at the age of 27 on Feb. 20, when she was struck by a train while filming the Greg Allman biopic “Midnight Rider” in Georgia. Sarah was also a crew member on The Vampire Diaries, and stars like Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, and Paul Wesley have used the Internet to send out heartfelt messages honoring Sarah’s memory.

Dying in a train crash sounds horrible enough to begin with, but the fact that Sarah was around the same age of most of TVD‘s cast must have made this an extra hard pill to swallow.
The cast — as well as the show’s beloved creator, Julie Plec — showed just how strong the “TVD Family” is when they all reached out to share their grief, despite the fact that this must have been extremely difficult for them given the sudden and violent nature of Sarah’s death.
“Our #TVDfamily lost a loved one,” Nina wrote. “Beautiful soul. A dear friend. I miss you Sarah. You will always be a part of us… #SlatesForSarah”
Nina’s cast mates followed suit, with Ian and Steven McQueen also sharing their grief. Paul — who is infamously (in the TVD community, anyway) bad at social media — simply shared a photo of a director’s slate board, with “RIP Sailor Sarah” written on top. Simple, but powerful:
