Paulina Porizkova (born Pavlína Pořízková on April 9, 1965 in Prostějov, Czech Republic) is a Czech-born model and actress. When she was a toddler, her parents fled to Sweden to escape the 1968 Warsaw Pact invasion, leaving her in the care of her grandmother. After a friend took pictures of her and sent them to Elite modeling agency in 1980, she quickly rose to fame as a top model in Paris in the early 1980s. At just 18 years old she became the first woman from Central Europe to be featured on the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. She also modeled for Playboy‘s swimsuit calendar, and in 1988 she won the highest-paying modeling contract with Estee Lauder. Paulina was chosen twice by People as one of the Fifty Most Beautiful People in the World in 1990 and 1992. Paulina joined the panel of judges on America’s Next Top Model replacing Twiggy for Cycles 10-12.
