Only hours after Colin Kaepernick showed support for Fidel Castro, the controversial Cuban leader died! Fans are totally freaked out and took to Twitter to discuss the spooky coincidence!
This is weird! San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, 29, was at the center of new controversy over the Thanksgiving weekend holiday, after throwback pics of him wearing a t-shirt in support of Cuban leader Fidel Castro arose on the Internet. And what was even more disturbing than Colin standing up for the controversial dictator, was that Fidel died only hours later! SO spooky!
Immediately, fans and critics took to Twitter to debate on whether the incident was a coincidence or a conspiracy! “Looks like Colin Kaepernick’s support literally sent Fidel Castro over the edge,” one person tweeted on Nov. 26. “I doubt Colin Kaepernick could have had worse timing in praising Fidel Castro yesterday,” another chimed in.
Others poked fun at the NFL player, joking that Colin would be terribly distraught after hearing of his passing. “Ten bucks says #ColinKaepernick will be spotted at #FidelCastro‘s funeral. Where he will be standing,” another person said. A number of fans also pointed out the unusualness of Colin supporting a man who had publicly oppressed a large mass of people while he was protesting the oppression of Americans with his National Anthem demonstration at the same time.

Colin Kaepernick tried to give us a lesson in Fidel Castro the other day. This weekend, it appears Miami is giving him a lesson.

No talent Colin Kaepernick is now celebrating the life of Fidel Castro, an oppressive dictator who kept his own people in poverty. 😂😂

Although Colin wore the shirt in Aug. 2016, he defended his decision to support the Cuban leader in a statement on Nov. 23. In addition to pointing out that his shirt showed both an image of Castro and civil rights activist Malcolm X, he also discussed one of Fidel’s greatest achievements. “One thing that Fidel Castro did do is they have the highest literacy rate because they invest more in their education system than they do in their prison system, which we do not do here, even though we’re fully capable of doing that,” Colin told The Palm Beach Post. While Colin didn’t seem to be in support of Castro’s oppressive nature, he did equate his system of breaking up families to America’s mass incarceration. Yikes!
As previously reported, Fidel Castro passed away on Nov. 25, at the age of 90. Unlike Colin’s sentiments, other world figures took to Twitter and other social platforms to either celebrate the Cuban’s death or to remind people of his oppressive and cruel tactics. Donald Trump, 70, and Ted Cruz, 45, specifically, expressed relief and happiness that Castro was gone.
