It’s all the power of Nintendo – in the palm of your hand! The video game company announced the NES Classic Edition on July 14, a mini console with 30 built-in classic games. This made gamers go nuts, with some saying they ‘need this’ right now! Click to see.
Now, you’re playing with power! Nintendo, one of the biggest names in video games, is going small, releasing a pint-sized version of their classic system. Needless to say, gamers are losing their minds over this, saying they “literally cannot even.” Game on!
Nintendo announced the Nintendo Entertainment System: Classic Edition (aka Mini-NES) on July 14, per Tech Crunch. The miniature version of the classic NES can be hooked up to a TV via a HDMI cable and comes with a controller just like the original Nintendo gamepad. The controller will also connect to a Wii Remote, so it can be used to play Virtual Console games. Neat!
Speaking of games, there’s no need to blow into those old dusty cartridges, as 30 games come pre-installed on the Mini NES. There are some classic gems, from Super Mario Bros. to Metroid. The full list of games is:
Balloon Fight, Bubble Bobble, Castlevania, Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Double Dragon II: The Revenge, Dr. Mario, Excitebike, Final Fantasy, Galaga, Ghosts’N Goblins, Gradius, Ice Climber, Kid Icarus, Kirby’s Adventure, Mario Bros., Mega Man 2, Metroid, Ninja Gaiden, Pac-Man, Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream, StarTropics, Super C, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, Tecmo Bowl, The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
Gamers were excited about the news! One said that the Mini NES would be the “first time ever having a NES in [their] house.” Others were excited to play Bubble Bobble and other games on the original platform, instead of on emulators. However, some wished that the NES: Classic Edition included some games like the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Kung Fu. Oh well. Can’t win them all.

“We wanted to give fans of all ages the opportunity to revisit Nintendo’s original system and rediscover why they fell in love with Nintendo in the first place,” Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, said. Indeed, gamers will get a chance on Nov. 11, 2016, when the NES Classic Edition goes on sale.
