Kodak Black (born Dieuson Octave in Pompano Beach, Florida on June 11, 1997) is an American hip-hop recording artist. He began rapping at the young age of 12, joining a local group named Brutal Youngnz, shortly before he decided to embark upon a solo career. In 2013, he began to release mixtapes, such as Project Baby, Heart of the Projects and Institution. Kodak’s popularity sky-rocketed when Canadian rapper Drake posted a video of himself dancing to his single “Skrt” in Oct. 2015. As a result, Kodak signed a deal with Atlantic Records the very same year. The rapper was even featured on French Montana‘s single “Lockjaw” in 2016, before landing a spot on XXL Magazine’s Top Ten Freshman List. In Aug., “Skrt” became his first lead single to secure a spot on Billboard for the Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart.

Personal Life:
Kodak was arrested in Oct. 2015 after he allegedly forced several people into a car for suspecting them of breaking into his house. After he posted bail, he was arrested again in April 2016. He is set to be released on a plea deal and will now serve a year on house arrest. Kodak will also be on probation for five years.
