Melania Trump (born Melanija Knavs on April 26, 1970 in Sevnica, Yugoslavia) is a Slovenian jewelry designer and former model. Melania grew up when Slovenia was a part of communist Yugoslavia. Her mother, Amalija Knavs, was a fashion designer. Melania began her modeling career at age 16 and when she was 18, she signed with a modeling agency in Milan. Melania studied design and architecture at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia while modeling in Milan and Paris. In 1996, she relocated to New York City. During her modeling career, Meliania appeared on the covers of such magazines as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, In Style, Vanity Fair and Glamour. In 2010, she launched her jewelry collection, Melania Timepieces and Jewelry. Three years later, she debuted a line of skin care products. She married Donald Trump in 2005, making her the First Lady of the United States when he won the 2016 presidential election.

In 2006, Melania and Donald welcomed their first child together, a son named Barron William. Melania became a naturalized citizen in 2006. She is an honorary chairwoman for the Martha Graham Dance Company and a Goodwill Ambassador for the American Red Cross.
