Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon, 65, has been a champion for numerous liberal causes in her illustrious career. And she isn’t about to start shying away from hot political topics now!

She talked to HollywooodLife.com, EXCLUSIVELY, at the premiere of her new thriller, Arbitrage, opening Sept. 14  - the event sponsored by The Wall Street Journal, Piagat and Brioni. She explained how the influence of big money donors is corrupting democracy in America.

” . . . the biggest change is now you don’t even have to hide how much money you’re taking from superpowers, you can just take it legally, and I find that very disheartening,” the actress mused.

Susan was referring to the Citizens United Supreme Court decision, which ruled that money equals free speech – removing all limits on how much big business can donate to campaigns.

The issue gets to the heart of free and fair elections, but Susan doesn’t have much faith that either party will address the problem, “I don’t think Congress are the ones who are going to do it. It’s gonna have to come from the people. Congress is benefitting from that.”

For Susan, this is a case of the wolves watching the hen-house.

“It’s just gotten worse, and worse and worse, so obviously, how do you get those people to regulate themselves?”

A grassroots solution, though, takes passion from ordinary citizens. Voters fatigued by the drama in DC who are tuning out all together could undermine reform. Susan herself is a bit fed up with following a political cycle that doesn’t ever seem to change.

“I didn’t watch the conventions. Either of them. I don’t have a TV and I felt like I had done it already. I was there last time . . .”

If influential and energetic activists like Susan Sarandon have had it with politics, one wonders if the will to get big money out of elections is really out there at all.

He pairs up for a third time with ‘D–k In A Box’ partner Andy Samberg for ’3-Way (The Golden Rule)!’

Justin Timberlake is not only a great singer, but as of late he’s recreated himself as a comedian. When he hosted the May 21 season finale of Saturday Night Live, he debuted a new Digital Short with Andy Samberg, which reunited the parody R&B group behind “D–k In A Box” and “Motherlover!”

Justin, 30, and Andy, 32, revived their roles as the horny Lotharios for “3-Way (The Golden Rule),” and it is TOO funny. In the clip, the duo wake up immediately after sleeping with each other’s moms (Susan Sarandon and Patricia Clarkson) in “Motherlover” and both head to Lady Gaga‘s apartment for a little action. We won’t spoil anything, but suffice it to say it’s great to see often-serious Gaga, 25, cut loose — she steals the show!

Winner for female actor in a drama series for her role in The Good Wife, Juliana Margulies, 44, also rocked a red-hot look in a stunning Yves Saint Laurent gown.

Movie star vixens Nicole Kidman, 43, and Amy Adams, 36, were both absolutely divine even if they were on opposite ends of the color spectrum. Nicole showed off her long and lean figure in a black Nina Ricci gown with a peek-a-boo lace backless detail. Amy was a goddess in a snow white Herve Leroux dress and Kimberly McDonald jewelry.

If you were shocked that Kate and Rob would even attend the same party, you’ll be even more stunned to learn they actually had a conversation!

We told you first that both Robert Pattinson and Kate Gosselin attended Jimmy Fallon‘s post-Emmy bash August 29, but what we DIDN’T tell you is that the two actually interacted!

“Rob DID have a brief discussion with Kate,” an insider tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively of the party, held at Hollywood hot spot Trousdale. “He was sitting with his guy friends, Jimmy and [agent] Stephanie Ritz, and she came up to chat to him and Jimmy briefly. It was very innocent.”

We’ll say it was innocent! Can you imagine Kate, 35, getting her cougar claws into R-Patz? His GF, Kristen Stewart (who couldn’t be with her man because she was in Argentina for work), would kill!

For that reason alone Rob, 24, was on his best behavior at the party. “He drank beer and played a little pool. He was very low-key – but still one of the last to leave the party,” a second source adds.

NOT on their best behavior, however, were Rob and Kate’s fellow partygoers! Matthew Fox and Susan Sarandon knocked back some Amstels with Claire Danes and her hubby Hugh Dancy before kissing on the lips (she does like younger men, after all), while Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Jon Hamm and Will Arnett shook their booties near the DJ booth.

Even though his heart was breaking, Hayden was able to pull himself together to help make a difference in other people’s lives!

On Aug. 10, actor Hayden Christensen decided to forget about his recent split from Rachel Bilson and instead of focusing on his heartbreak, went to work to help make a difference in other people’s lives. Hayden attended The Christopher & Dana Foundation & Dior Beauty Reeve Champions Summer Party held in NYC’s Boom Boom Room to lend a helping hand to his good friends Alexandra Reeve Givens and Matthew Reeve (children of the late Christopher Reeve) in their efforts to cure spinal cord injuries.

“The foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for spinal cord injuries, but at the same time taking care of people while they’re living with an injury, and helping them to adjust to a new life, and helping to be there for their families,” Matthew told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY during the party. “It doesn’t just happen to the person, their whole family goes through it, sometimes the whole community.”

“Hayden was incredibly generous with his time to be here tonight,” Matthew said of his friend’s involvement with the foundation. But, “there’s [also] a strong cast of loyal friends like Meryl Streep, Susan Sarandon, and Robin Williams who have been fantastic, and I’m confident they will continue to lend their support.”

In future efforts, the Reeve kids are trying to raise awareness and involvement with younger generations. Because of this, Alexandra enlisted NYC’s fashion community to help. “We have a bunch of designers who, as a part of our auction, have donated tickets to their fashion week shows,” said Alexandra. “Marchesa, Peter Som, Yigal Azrouel, Ralph Lauren, and Costello Tagliapetra … it’s a whole host of people who have come together to help raise awareness and support the cause. This is the first year we have done this, we’re really excited for it. The event is part of the Reeve Champions Committee, which is the young person’s initiative of the foundation. So we’re really trying to raise awareness among a younger group of people, and get people excited and informed about the cause.”

The Aug. 10 party supported a wonderful cause. And with such powerful support from both the entertainment and fashion industries, the foundation will only continue to make greater strides.

Believe it or not, one of the most successful actresses in the world has her moments of insecurity too — just like we do!

After her shocking breakup from longtime partner Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon seemed like she had turned over a new, youthful leaf by dating a guy half her age and partying with her 25-year-old daughter. But shockingly, the 63-year-old Oscar winner admits she’s definitely not as happy as she seems.

“I don’t feel that confident right now,” Susan confided to reporters April 16 while promoting her April 23 appearance on NBC’s Who Do You Think You Are?

“I have my bad times. It’s an odd time…and [I have a] new kind of perspective right now. My curiosity outweighs my ego for the most part, and it moves me forward.”

We could barely believe our ears! Susan Sarandon has crappy days? It’s rare that any actresses are so honest about their emotional states — usually we only hear about their physical insecurities.

Susan has reason to be in emotional turmoil: she’s completely changed her life around this year. First, she split from her partner of 22 years (and father of her two sons) Tim Robbins last summer. Then she began dating her Spin NYC business partner, 31 year-old Jonathan Bricklin. Finally, we even caught her partying until the wee hours of the morning with daughter Eva Amurri, 25. Although she seemed to have discovered the happy fountain of youth, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

“I’m feeling a little bit sorry for myself right now, honestly,” the actress admitted, adding that she twisted her ankle during a recent trip to Haiti and can’t help feeling down in the dumps.

Susan, you have every reason to feel confident. You’re a beautiful, intelligent Academy Award-winning actress with a family who loves you. Try not to wallow in self-pity – and remember how good you’ve got it – and how great you really are!
