The Internet is blowing up over news that Ryan Lochte and his teammates weren’t telling the whole truth about being robbed at gunpoint at the Olympics! Fans even started a #LochteGate hashtag to mock the swimmer for getting caught fabricating his story!
Ryan Lochte, 32, insists that he, Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and Jimmy Feigen were robbed while heading back to the Olympic village over the weekend, but authorities, who’ve found inconsistencies in the guys’ stories, aren’t so sure. It’s been reported that the swimmers actually destroyed a gas station bathroom — an important piece of information they conveniently left out — and were then held at gunpoint by a security guard, who demanded they pay up to cover the damages.
CCTV footage, obtained by ABC News, allegedly shows the guys kicking down a door and fighting with the security guard. Even though it seems some of the guys’ story is legit, there seems to be some information that’s been omitted — and fans are totally trolling Ryan about it with the hashtag #LochteGate on Twitter!
Getting on a plane soon. By the time I get off I expect to see Lochte implicated in the Lindbergh kidnapping. #LochteGate

Authorities banned Ryan and his teammates from leaving Brazil earlier this week, but the 32-year-old was already in America by that time. However, Gunner and Jack were taken off their flight home on Aug. 17 and taken in for questioning, but an official statement from police hasn’t been released yet.
Ryan defended his story during a TODAY show interview, insisting he and his teammates “wouldn’t make this story up.” However, he noticeably changed some of the details he gave about the night of the incident, which had fans questioning his story long before this shocking new information came out.
HollywoodLifers, do you think Ryan and his teammates lied, or are people taking this too far? What do you think of the #LochteGate trend?
