The queen has spoken! Bette Midler is finally giving her two cents about the ‘Beaches’ remake. The actress tweeted her reaction to the news, and as usual, she was brutally honest. Does she approve of Idina Menzel taking over the role of CC?
“Can’t wait to see Idina Menzel as CC in Lifetime’s ‘Beaches!'” Bette, 70, tweeted on Aug. 2. “DON’T TELL ME THE ENDING!” Oh, Bette. She just had to get a little bit of her humor in there. We’re so glad to see Bette give Idina, 45, her blessing to play CC in the upcoming Lifetime movie.
It was recently announced that Idina would be tackling the iconic role that Bette first made famous in a remake of the 1988 movie. Idina will play CC, an aspiring singer who forms a lifelong friendship with Hillary, a girl she meets on the Venice Boardwalk as a young girl. The movie will feature Idina tackling the feature’s iconic songs like “Wind Beneath My Wings” and “The Glory of Love,” but new songs will also be added to the mix.
Bette was radio silent when the news was first revealed, and everyone was wondering if she wasn’t a fan of the movie being remade. Bette is usually pretty timely when it comes to posting her reaction to something on Twitter. Idina later tweeted that Bette “has been one of my all time idols. I hope I can make her proud.”
The role of Hillary, originally played by Barbara Hershey, 68, has not yet been cast. Barbara has yet to offer her opinion on the Beaches remake. Let’s hope Bette will live tweet the movie when it premieres in 2017. There’s nothing quite like Bette’s zingers!
