SO sad ! Gord Downie, 52, from the Canadian band The Tragically Hip, has been diagnosed with an aggressive brain cancer. But despite his progressive illness, he announced that he will perform as scheduled on tour one last time. Grateful and astonished by Gord’s strength and courage, Nickelback and more expressed their support for the Canadian musician on Twitter. See the tweets.
Rock band, Nickleback was one the first to show their support. “Sending all love, light, thoughts and prayers to
#GordDownie. Your influence and courage both on and off stage continues to inspire,” the band tweeted.
“The news about Gord Downie makes me feel like I just found out a good friend is dying,” another fan tweeted. Many others shared pictures of the artist, as well as recalled their favorite memories of seeing The Hip in concert. “I’ve seen the Hip at a couple festivals (parts of which I even remember!) – I’m sad to hear about
#GordDownie’s diagnosis. #TragicallyHip,” one fan added.
The band’s lead vocalist was tragically diagnosed with glioblastoma, a brain tumor that invaded his left temporal lobe in Dec. 2015 after he suffered from a seizure while walking in his hometown in Kingston, according to the Toronto Star. Gord’s diagnosis is incurable, and has claimed the life of many others, including former Senator Ted Kennedy.
Gord has reportedly been responding well to treatment, which has included brain surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy, according to neuro-oncologist Dr. James Perry. “Fortunately for Gord, he has a type of glioblastoma that is more amenable to treatment than most . . . with a more favorable response to treatment,” Dr. Perry said.
Sending all love, light, thoughts and prayers to #GordDownie. Your
influence and courage both on and off stage continues to inspire.
