The journalism world lost a legend. Iconic ’60 Minutes’ correspondent Morley Safer passed away on May 19 at the age of 84, and fans were devastated to hear the news — especially because he just retired one week prior. See some of the sweet tributes right here!
After Morley Safer dedicated 46 years of his life to storytelling on 60 Minutes, fans were sad to see him retire on May 11. So when news broke that the legendary correspondent was dead just eight days later on May 19, Morley’s fans couldn’t believe he was gone forever. It’s never easy when a legend like Morley dies, but the Twitter world came together to mourn by sharing some sweet messages to the late journalism icon.

Morley’s health was declining at the time of his retirement, but it’s still unclear what actually caused his death. He passed away in Manhattan, where he lived with his wife, Jane Fearer. Fans were extremely sad to hear of his passing, and immediately took to social media to pay tribute. “One of my journalism IDOLS…that voice…that distinctive storytelling…that easy laugh #RIPMorley,” one fan wrote. Another tweeted, “Sunday family dinners will never be the same.” So sad!
