It’s hard to believe Pretty Little Liars’ fourth season is only halfway over, considering how many times the fandom’s collective mind has been blown. I’d like to begin by asking forgiveness for any typos in this recap, as the Aug. 27 summer finale of Pretty Little Liars completely blew my mind, reducing me to a puddle of the man I was before the hour began. I’d also like to tell you to stop reading if you don’t want the game-changing ending spoiled for you.

Just when you thought the girls knew all their enemies, another one emerged right under their noses.
As loyal Pretty Little Liars viewers, we all know the first rule about surviving in Rosewood: Trust no one! Someone might seem like a stand-up individual — he (or she) might even have a charming British accent — but as we saw on the Aug. 13 episode, their true intentions could be far more sinister.

The men in Aria’s life are about to meet! Which guy do you think she belongs with?
Poor Aria (Lucy Hale) has been stuck in an emotional tailspin all summer on Pretty Little Liars, torn between ex-boyfriend Ezra (Ian Harding) and new romance Jake (Ryan Guzman) — and it sounds like her love life is only going to get more complicated. HollywoodLife.com had a little chat with Ryan, who revealed that not only will Jake and Aria’s relationship continue to grow, but Jake and Ezra will finally come face-to-face. Spoiler alert: It won’t be pretty.

Has Wilden’s true killer finally been revealed? … I doubt it.
There’s a chance Hanna (Ashley Benson) might have gone a little too far helping her mom on the July 30 episode of Pretty Little Liars. Desperate to get her mom out of prison, she decided to tell the cops that she killed Detective WIlden (Bryce Johnson), and she turned to the one person she knew could help her perfect a lie: Mona (Janel Parrish)! Unfortunately, Hanna’s knight in shining hair didn’t approve of her new ally. Could this be the beginning of the end of her relationship with Caleb (Tyler Blackburn)?

But was it really Wilden’s killer? Probably not. The cops on this show are terrible at everything.
Fresh off her arrest at the sorority house, Hanna (Ashley Benson) was forced to stay home from school on the July 16 episode of Pretty Little Liars — which wasn’t as sweet as deal as it sounds, considering her parents were at each other’s throats about Wilden all day. Ashley (Laura Leighton) swore she didn’t shoot him, but Papa Marin wasn’t so convinced. And as it turned out, neither were the police!

Plus, scary puppets! So many scary puppets!
Some girls play with dolls, others play with corpses. The ladies of Pretty Little Liars found themselves in the latter category this week, as they infiltrated the Rosewood Morgue — is that not what it’s called? — to make sure Toby (Keegan Allen) wasn’t really dead. But just when they thought they’d put all their fears to bed, Emily’s (Shay Mitchell) mom informed the girls that another young man’s body was found in the park! She actually only told Emily, but c’mon, we all know these girls suck at keeping secrets.

Spencer might have solved the mystery of her boyfriend’s murder — while losing her own mind in the process.
Spencer (Troian Bellisario) spent most of this week’s Pretty Little Liars chilling in Radley Sanitarium — you’ve got to love the revolving doors at that place — and even though she’s not technically insane, she still found herself immersed in a whole lotta crazy. Not only did she meet the real E. Lam, who Toby (Keegan Allen) stole his alias from, but she also got a visit from Mona (Janel Parrish). And you don’t get much crazier than her.

Is ‘Ezria’ about to call it quits for good? Get the dirt on all the upcoming Rosewood relationship drama!
Aria (Lucy Hale) may be standing by Ezra (Ian Harding) for now — despite his sudden case of fatherhood and the fact that she totally kissed his brother, Wesley (Gregg Sulkin) — but don’t expect her fidelity to last much longer. According to ABC Family’s official description of the March 12 episode of Pretty Little Liars, “Aria starts to seriously contemplate her relationship with Ezra as his new family situation continues to eat away at her.”

Plus: Spencer completes her descent into madness, and yet another suspect emerges in Alison’s murder. Just another week in Rosewood!
After getting kicked off the academic decathlon team, Spencer (Troian Bellisario) went fifty shades of cray on the Feb. 12 episode of Pretty Little Liars — and just like the book, she had a parade of beefy dudes telling her what to do! First came hot-nerd Andrew (Brandon Jones), who is built like a blessed mountain, followed by Dr. Wren (Julian Morris), who prescribed her 50 cc’s of romantic dinner.

Now that Spencer (Troian Bellisario) knows Toby (Keegan Allen) is on the “A” team, it’s only a matter of time before the rest of the Pretty Little Liars are clued in. But the bigger surprise, Shay Mitchell tells HollywoodLife.com, is why Toby went to the dark side. Is it possible his motives are pure?

It’s a good thing Mona (Janel Parrish) isn’t living at Radley Sanitarium anymore, because they might need the extra room for Spencer (Troian Bellisario)! The normally level-headed liar started to lose her mind on the Jan. 29 episode of Pretty Little Liars — I guess that what happens when you find out you’re literally sleeping with the enemy — and her resulting breakdown may have thrown a serious wrench in the beautiful machine that is “Ezria.”

Plus, another suspect in Alison’s murder comes to light. Yes, another suspect.
Some anniversaries end with a romantic candlelit dinner; others end with a girl learning that her boyfriend has been secretly terrorizing her friends for the past three years. Sadly, Spencer (Troian Bellisario) experienced the latter on the Sept. 22 episode of Pretty Little Liars, as she finally discovered that Toby (Keegan Allen) is actually a member of the “A” team. He may look damn good in a towel, but Toby looks real bad in a hoodie.

Byron’s mistress dropped a bombshell on Aria this week that could tie him to the show’s biggest mystery! I’m no detective, clearly, but after watching the Jan. 15 episode of Pretty Little Liars, I think it’s safe to say Byron (Chad Lowe) is looking pretty guilty. The premiere of season 3B answered some of our most burning questions — and, of course, presented us with a million new ones.
The second half of Pretty Little Liars’ third season kicked off Jan. 8 — “A” be praised! — and it was just as bananas as I’d hoped it would be: Mona (Janel Parrish) returned to Rosewood high, crazier than ever; we learned the real connection between Alison (Sasha Pieterse) and Byron (Chad Lowe); and we got a pretty good idea of who tried to kill Aria (Lucy Hale). As if Aria’s relationship with her dad wasn’t messed up enough, Byron’s mistress re-enters the picture in a big way during the second half of Pretty Little Liars’ third season — and come Jan. 22, our girl might have a situation of Misery proportions on her hands. According to ABC Family, Aria is “down for the count when sidelined by the flu,” so Meredith (Amanda Schull) “steps up to help take care of Aria while her father is away.”
