Cam Newton (born Cameron Jerrell Newton on May 11, 1989 in Atlanta, Georgia) is an American professional football player. Cam played high school football for Westlake High School in Atlanta, playing quarterback and passing for 2,500 yards for 23 touchdowns in his junior year. Rivals.com rated him a five-star prospect. Cam enrolled in the University of Florida, where he played for them in the 2007 and 2008 seasons. But, after Cam was arrested for stealing a laptop in 2008, he was suspended from the team. Cam transferred to Binn College in 2009, before he signed with Auburn University. In 2010, Cam led Auburn to the SEC Championship and their first BCS National Championship. Because of this, he won the Heisman Trophy in a landslide. The Carolina Panthers chose Cam as the #1st overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Since then, Cam has led the Panthers to the playoffs twice. He has also set many records, including Most passing yards by a quarter back in a debut game, First to pass more than 400 yards in two career starts, and the fastest player to throw for 1,000 yards. He was named to the NFL Pro Bowl in 2012 and 2014. In 2015, Cam led the Panthers to an impressive 15-1 record during the regular NFL season.

Cam is the son of Cecil Newton, who was a former NFL safety for the Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills. His older brother, Cecil Newton Jr., is a center who plays for the Baltimore Ravens. Cam finished his degree at Auburn in 2015. Cam announced on Dec. 30 that he and girlfriend Kia Proctor welcomed a baby boy on Dec. 24 2015. They later revealed his name to be Chosen Newton.Â
