Bio:
Fetty Wap (born Willie Maxwell on June 7, 1990 in Patterson, New Jersey) is an American rapper. Fetty grew up in a Patterson, New Jersey housing project. He began his interest in music in 2013, first starting off as a rapper before blending in singing with his hip-hop style. The name Fetty Wap comes from slang for money (“Fetty”) and a tribute to his fellow rapper, Gucci Mane (“Wap.”) Fetty’s first single was released in 2014. “Trap Queen” was made in Feb. 2014, but didn’t pick up any steam until November. Since then, it went on to become a certified platinum song with over 80 millions plays on SoundCloud. Fetty aimed to release his debut mixtape, Fetty Wap: The Mixtape, in Feb. 2015 but was delayed because he continued to create new songs. He released two more singles, “679” and “My Way,” the latter becoming his second Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. In June 2015, Fetty was awarded the Music Choice MC100 Award for the most played music vide. Fetty became the first male rapper with three songs occupying the top 20 spots on the Billboard Hot 100 since Eminem did so in 2013. Fetty also became the first male rapper in four years to have two concurrent singles reach the top 10 since Little Wayne.
