Uh oh! Donald Trump is yet again giving praise to Saddam Hussein and the Twittersphere went wild with stunned disbelief that he would actually go there. Not only that, he said the U.S. needed a leader with a ‘tough temperament’ like the late Iraqi dictator!
There he goes! Donald Trump, 70, has stepped into another controversy, this time giving out kind words to Saddam Hussein on how he allegedly controlled terrorism, Sure, he prefaced it with the fact that he was a bad guy, but he then went on to sing his praises about what a tough guy he was. Needless to say, his message did not go over well, especially on Twitter where many people were questioning why the presumed Republican presidential nominee would ever feel the need to go there! Click through for some of the amazing responses.
“Saddam Hussein was a bad guy, right? He was a bad guy. Really bad guy,” Donald told the crowd at a campaign stop in North Carolina July 5. “But you know what he did well? He killed terrorists. He did that so good. They didn’t read them the rights, they didn’t talk. They were a terrorists – it was over. Today, Iraq is Harvard for terrorism. You want to be a terrorist, go to Iraq. So sad,” he said as the crowd gave him very tepid applause. He then told the audience, “We need somebody with a tough temperament,” Donald said, seemingly to compare himself to the late Iraqi dictator.
Believe it or not, this isn’t the first time he praised the late Iraqi dictator. Back in Oct. 2015, he told CNN, “Look at Iraq. Iraq used to be no terrorists. He (Hussein) would kill the terrorists immediately, which is like now it’s the Harvard of terrorism,” he said, again using the “Harvard of terrorism” line. “If you look at Iraq from years ago, I’m not saying he was a nice guy, he was a horrible guy, but it was a lot better than it is right now. Right now, Iraq is a training ground for terrorists.” Ugh!
His words sure got the Twittersphere riled up that he’d even think of making such a crazy comparison and soon #Saddam Hussein was a top trending topic.
I'm old enough to remember when GOP presidents opposed Saddam Hussein. Now the GOP nominee praises him.

I don't want a President who considers Vladimir Putin and Saddam Hussein role models.

Complimenting Saddam Hussein for how well he handled terrorism is like praising Jeffrey Dahmer for his choice of wine pairing at dinner.

Gotta think "praise Saddam Hussein" was on the very small list of no-nos there

Trump has now tried to get cozy with Qaddafi, expressed admiration for Putin, and now praises Saddam Hussein. Super presidential guy

Trump praising Saddam Hussein because he 'tortured' people. Pay attention when the crazy in Trump surfaces. It's for real. #NoJoke

Coming off the 4th of July weekend, every American probably reflects a little and wishes we had a more Saddam Hussein-like president, no?
