Bio:
Gordon Ramsay (born Gordon James Ramsay in Johnstone, Scotland on November 8, 1966). Gordon is a celebrity chef and television personality in both in the UK and the US. Gordon is known for the competitive cooking shows Hell’s Kitchen, The F Word, and Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares in Britain, and Hell’s Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares, MasterChef, MasterChef Junior and Hotel Hell in America. His restaurants have been awarded 16 Michelin stars in total and currently hold 9. Gordon’s signature restaurant, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, in London has held 3 Michelin stars since 2001. Gordon studied hotel management at North Oxfordshire Technical College. In the early ’80s he worked as a chef in a series of restaurants until he was inspired to work for Marco Pierre White at Harveys. He worked there for almost 3 years before tiring of “the rages and the bullying and violence,” and decided to study French cooking. Gordon worked for Guy Savoy (who he later called his mentor) and Joël Robuchon in Paris, both Michelin-starred chefs. He returned to London in 1993 and took the position as head chef at Aubergine, which won two Michelin stars during Gordon’s time there. Gordon had disputes with the owners and left the restaurant in 1997 with the dream of running his own restaurant. In 1998, Gordon opened his own restaurant in London, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, with the help of his father-in-law, Chris Hutcheson. In 2001, when the restaurant gained its third Michelin star, Gordon became the first Scot to hold that honor. Since then, Gordon has opened restaurants in the UK, Dubai, Tokyo and the US. Gordon’s first TV roles were in two documentaries, Boiling Point (1998) and Beyond Boiling Point (2000). He went on to appear in British series like Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares and Hell’s Kitchen. In May 2005, FOX brought Gordon before American audiences for the first time with a US version of Hell’s Kitchen. Since then, Gordon has starred in multiple cooking-related reality TV shows in the US.
