Richard Simmons (born Milton Teagle Simmons on July 12, 1948 in New Orleans, Louisiana) is an American fitness guru and comedian. His weight loss videos, especially his Sweatin’ to the Oldies aerobics videos, were very popular in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. He’s been featured on a number of television series, including Arrested Development, Saturday Night Live, CHiPs and General Hospital. He hosted two shows — Slim Cookin and The Richard Simmons Show — in the early 1980s. He also hosted his own radio show, Lighten Up with Richard Simmons. He was hospitalized in June 2016 for “bizarre conduct,” but he was later released.
