Jason Kelce has mixed feelings about his brother Travis Kelce dating Taylor Swift. The Philadelphia Eagles player, 35, recently spoke to NBC Sports about the nationwide attention on the “Traylor” relationship and how the response from fans and the media has been way more intense than he expect.
“It’s certainly been weird, the level that it is now,” Jason said during the interview on October 22. “On one hand, I’m happy for my brother that he seems to be in a relationship that he’s excited about, that he is genuine about. But there’s another end of it where it’s like, ‘Man, this is a lot,’ ” he added.
Jason pointed out how Travis, 34, has received nonstop media coverage because of his romance with Taylor, 33. “There’s paparazzi talking about him fueling his car before the game today and I’m like, ‘Is that really necessary information to share?’ ” Jason said. “This is another level of stardom that typically football players don’t deal with.”
“And so on one hand, really, really happy for my brother and where he’s at in his current situation with Taylor,” Jason continued, “but on the other hand, there’s some, I think, alarms sometimes with how you know, over-in-pursuit people can be. Overall, he can deal with some of this. As long as it’s not, you know, becoming a threat to his safety and things like that.”
Jason has spoken out about his younger brother’s love life several times before. In one interview, the dad-of-three said that he thought the initial rumors about Travis and Taylor were “all 100 percent true.” Jason also poked fun at Travis about the relationship rumors on an episode of their podcast in September, telling the Kansas City Chiefs player to “Take away your feelings for Taylor,” when asking if the NFL was “overdoing” the coverage.
The Kelce parents have also shown support for Travis and Taylor’s relationship. Ed Kelce recently called Taylor “very sweet” and “charming” in an interview, while Donna Kelce bonded with the “Cruel Summer” singer in the stands at several Chiefs game. But like Jason, Donna has mentioned how the hype over the relationship has become extreme. “I feel like I’m in an alternate universe, because it’s something I’ve never been involved with before,” she said on a podcast in early October. “Every week just seems to trump the week before. So it’s really kind of wild, a wild ride.”
Taylor has been supporting Travis at his football games, but there’s only two Chiefs games left before Taylor embarks on the first international leg of her Eras Tour. However, Travis is planning on supporting Taylor while she’s on tour, according to a source from Entertainment Tonight. They said Travis and Taylor “are all in” and plan to spend time together during Taylor’s tour abroad.
