Jewel has added children’s book author to her impressive resume that includes singer, songwriter, actress, wife, to husband Ty Murray, and mom to their son Kase, 15 months. The 38-year-old said one song in particular — That’s What I’d Do – from her second children’s album, The Merry Goes ‘Round, stuck out and had to be more than just a track on an album.

“I was writing the lyrics [to the song That's What I'd Do] out by hand in a journal and seeing the words written without a melody just instantly struck me,” Jewel told Celebuzz.com. “I knew I wanted to make a children’s book out of it.”

The book became more than just a beautiful homage to her son — it’s a memorable gift he’ll always cherish!

“I wanted to have it as a love note for my son so he would know how much I loved him, but also hopefully inspire him with poetic imagery to really spark his imagination. It was really at quite a young age that I was inspired and intrigued by words. Hopefully we’ll share a love of words.”

That’s so sweet! As far as expanding her brood, Jewel says she doesn’t know if she and her husband will be adding any more children any time soon.

“I’m sure [Kase] would want a sibling, but I’m perfectly happy with one [child].”

Despite having come up the hard way, Jewel, 38 – who briefly lived in her car during the early struggles of her career – doesn’t begrudge new artists who have found quick success on shows like The X Factor. She talked to Hollywoodlife.com, EXCLUSIVELY, at the Oct. 10 premiere of Seven Pyschopaths, hosted by The Cinema Society with Hugo Boss and Appleton Estate.

In fact, the singer feels like these contests have exposed audiences to unconventional artists who might not have had a chance otherwise.

“It’s good for the industry. It reminds [everyone] that people care about singing –  and even a show like America’s Got Talent or The Voice – lets you know that the way you look doesn’t always matter to the American consumer. It’s still very hard for a record label to understand – and I think those shows remind them of that.”

Some have criticized these competitions as glorified karaoke contests that offer overnight success for artists lacking the chops of singers who broke into music more organically. Jewel doesn’t see it that way.

“I’m amazed those kids can go from singing in their living rooms to singing with such pressure overnight. I got to grow up the old fashioned way and get used to it slowly and I give them a lot of respect for being able to handle that  - and for someone like Carrie Underwood to then take that to a career, it takes a lot.”

For Jewel, there’s no such things as a free ride in the music business.

“I’m not a hater on the quick path. There’s no quick path . . . Nothing’s handed to you. And if it was easy, every single winner would be famous and they would have a career. The reason they don’t is because it’s hard and it’s rare and so any way a person can get it, I’m happy for them.”

Artists supporting artists. Jewel positively sparkled at last night’s premiere as she voiced her support for her fellow musicians.

Bonus: Attendees at the super exclusive after-party at New York’s No. 8 club sipped on Appleton Estate cocktails as they mulled over the super violent noir comedy, Seven Psychopaths. The movie hits theaters Oct. 12.

Jewel, 38, has undergone a makeover on her teeth to play June Carter Cash in an upcoming Lifetime biopic, and the difference is drastic!

Jewel tweeted, “Here I am as June in my trailer with her blue eyes and perfect teeth #ringoffire” on June 5. In addition to her teeth, Jewel’s transformation included dying her hair brown and adding blue contacts.

According to OnTheRedCarpet.com, Jewel’s new teeth are temporary. After she is finished filming The June Carter Cash Story, she will return to her normal smile. In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel in 2009, the singer revealed, “I am proud of my flaws and you should be too. Not only do I think horrible snaggletooth is uniquely beautiful, it also comes in handy.” We think her natural smile is gorgeous and she should keep it!

Jewel and Ty Murray showed off their beautiful nine-week old son, Kase, in these first photos!

Jewel left a life of glitz and glam in Los Angeles to live with her husband, Ty Murray on a 2,400-acre ranch in Texas and the couple welcomed their first son, Kase Townes July 11 this year. The 35-year-old mom was planning on giving birth naturally, but told People magazine she had to have an emergency C-section.

“I feel lucky to be pregnant in the modern age where they could actually tell he wasn’t well during those contractions,” she said. “We felt thankful that we had good doctors and a good hospital nearby, and that everything was okay. I’m so lucky that we have a healthy baby boy. That’s all I cared about.”

Despite being a famous musician, Jewel is a hands-on mom and doesn’t want any extra help in the house.

“Neither of us wants to have a nanny,” the singer explained, adding, “Ty wants his relationship with Kase to be special, and the time you put in is part of that. I just want to soak up this time with him.”

We think Kase is an absolutely beautiful baby and wish the family the best of luck!

Kase is only 5 weeks old, and his parents Jewel and Ty are already worried about his safety! But, they agree that they will support his dreams, whatever they may be!

Jewel is the proud new mommy to beautiful 5-week-old baby boy, Kase Townes Murray. She and her husband, retired pro-bull rider Ty Murray, can’t stop bragging about little Kase. But while they are loving and supportive parents, there’s one activity they hope Kase will avoid when he grows up … bull-riding!

“We want him to find his passion. Whatever that is, we are fine with it,” Jewel tells People magazine. “But I hope it isn’t bull-riding.”

Ty feels the same way. “I don’t want him to ride,” he agrees. “It is the most dangerous job in the world. But if he’s crazy as I was about it, then what do you do? One of our biggest dreams for Kase is that he finds something he loves.”

But Jewel and Ty don’t have to worry just yet. Right now, they’re just enjoying baby Kase. “Everything’s new,” Jewel confesses. “The love you feel for the baby is a life-altering experience. Seeing my husband be such a good dad is also a nice added bonus.”

“We have parent goggles; we think he’s perfect,” adds Jewel. “He’s mellow and chill.”

Ty loves Kase just as much. “When he was born, I felt like somebody went to a cabinet, pulled out a perfect baby and handed him over,” he gushes. “It’s overwhelming.”

Jewel had a little bit of a surprise when she had to have an emergency C-section. “I studied hypnobirthing and planned a natural childbirth,” reveals Jewel. “But I feel so lucky that we have a healthy baby boy. That’s all I cared about.”

And now Jewel and Ty plan to raise Kase themselves on their 2,400-acre Texas ranch. “Neither of us want to have a nanny,” admits Jewel. “Ty wants his relationship with Kase to be special, and the time you put in is part of that.”

They have no complaints about parenthood except that they wish Kase would sleep a little bit longer. “One night he slept for eight hours,” says Ty. “It probably won’t again! Sometimes he gets up every hour, and sometimes he sleeps for longer stretches,” Jewel puts in.

Jewel spends her free time in her at-home recording studio making lullabies and sing-alongs for kids. Her first track, Supermarket Song, has already been released! Those who order her CD, The Merry Goes Round, now will receive copies by the release date on August 16! 

“I’ve got a lot of freedom with these” family albums, Jewel tells Billboard.com. “I can write what I feel like. They don’t have to be a certain genre or anything, really. I don’t have to think about singles or airplay. That’s liberating in a lot of ways. I just thought about things I’d like my son to learn — going into a room and using your imagination, not to be afraid of the dark, little lessons like that. So it’s definitely a different mindset and creatively very fulfilling.”

Next week we will hear about another featured single, “Just Like Penguins Do.” She loves the “Honky Tonk/Dixieland” vibes the songs possess. The entire experience has been challenging for Jewel, which we see on this album.

“The cool thing about this album and (‘Lullaby’) is that it’s not the traditional model of, ‘We want to sell a million albums up front,’ ” Jewel notes. “They look at it as a 10-year plan. ‘Lullaby’ is almost at half a million records (sold) with no promotion. It’s a fun model. It doesn’t take a lot of promotion or massive tours of duty out there. You can do one or two things and the record hopefully sells itself by word of mouth.”
