One of the best musicians of all time, Billy Joel, is in for another exciting year. But aside from continuing on with his music career, Billy is first and foremost a doting dad to his daughter, with the his ex-wife Christie Brinkley, Alexa Ray, 25, who is also an inspiring musician! 

Alexa Ray suffered with depression and attempted suicide back in 2009 and since then, Billy and Christie have been focused on her and making sure she’s headed on the right path. “Her mother was a supermodel. Her father is one of the biggest pop stars in America,” a family friend tells the NY Daily News. “She’s trying to find her place in the world.”

Billy and his wife Katie Lee called it quits, in June 2009, so we hope he makes sure today is about new beginnings and family.

She is well known for her gorgeous looks, but supermodel Christie Brinkley has a lot of other things that define her. She is an actress, photographer, writer and the mother to children from three of her four marriages. She had a daughter with Billy Joel, Alexa Ray Joel, 25, a son Jack Taubman, 15, with Richard Taubman, and a daughter Sailor Lee Brinkley Cook, 12, with recent ex Peter Cook.

“Most of the time, I’ve got my kids with me, so I’m not as prone to meeting people,” Christie tells Prevention magazine in its February issue. “It’s not my number one priority.” What is a number one priority is raising her children. “It takes a lot of work,” she says of motherhood. “My work makes me a better mom. Tracksuit wearing Cheerios coach Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) will still on hand to provide us with endless one-liners about the Keebler Elves that live in Mr. Schuester’s hair!

Not only is Katie still close to her ex-husband, but she’s totally supportive of him, too — she’s psyched to see Billy’s music appear on Glee!

It’s not typically easy for exes to stay on good terms, but that’s exactly what Katie Lee and former husband Billy Joel have managed to do!

“We’re very good friends,” the 28-year-old chef confided to HollywoodLife.com exclusively at the 11th Annual BNP Paribas Taste of Tennis Charity Event in NYC August 26. Katie realizes that her situation is pretty unique, and tells us, “I think that [getting along with your ex is] something that really just depends on the person.”

Not only does Katie get along well with Billy, 61, but she’s also still supportive of his career! Although she confessed that she’s not a huge fan of Glee, she was more than happy to hear his music would be featured on the hit Fox TV show. “I didn’t know that it was, [but now] I can’t wait to watch it!” she gushed, adding, “I haven’t gotten into Glee yet, but I’d love to start watching it because all of my friends really like it. I’m sure [Billy's music] will be really great. His music is the soundtrack of a lot of people’s lives, so I think it’s a perfect fit for Glee. That’s really exciting!”

We’re pretty shocked that these two have maintained such a good relationship, given the scandal the end of their marriage. The couple separated after 4 1/2 years of marriage last June amidst rumors Katie was cheating with fashion designer Yigal Azrouël – whom she is NOT dating. In fact, Katie reveals that she’s currently single!  ”I’m not dating right now!” she shared with us.

Instead of men, Katie is focusing on herself. “I’ve just been at the beach all summer,” she explained. “I surf – that’s really been my thing. Just been surfing and writing a book. That’s about it and cooking.”

Just like mom Christie Brinkley was back in 1986, Alexa Ray is the new Prell girl!

What a comeback! Alexa Ray Joel, 24, has signed a deal to appear in both print and TV ads that will feature her music, according to the New York Post.

What a HUGE turnaround for her! The singer-songwriter daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley attempted to commit suicide on Dec. 5 by taking a handful of homeopathic pain relievers. She was rushed to St. Vincent’s Hospital in NYC. She has since announced it was a result of “heartbreak-related depression,” stemming from a breakup with rocker Jimmy Riot.

“I am so excited and honored to be named the new face of Prell — especially following in the footsteps of my mother, who was a Prell girl,” said Alexa. Mom Christie was the face of the hair care product in 1986, famously calling it “my body building system for hair.”

A spokeswoman for Alexa added, “This is Alexa’s first ad campaign. It is for print and TV for spring and summer. We will also shoot a fall campaign.”

On her Facebook page on Dec. 31, Alexa wrote that she had “many exciting new developments for the New Year” and “this includes new creative project”…we are guessing this may be what she was talking about!

It sounds like Alexa Ray is really turning her life around, and getting over her depression. Congrats Alexa!

We love that one of the biggest country stars on the planet is going to belt out the Star Spangled Banner on Feb. 7!

Alexa Ray Joel wants everyone to know that her supermodel mom, Christie Brinkley, is not to blame for her depression-related episode on Dec. 5, when she had to be hospitalized.

She says, “My mom & dad [famous singer Billy Joel] are my role models and best friends.  What I was struggling with had nothing to do with them.  The press was particularly harsh on my mother, which is unthinkable to me, because she is the kindest woman I’ve ever known.”

Christie’s ex-husband Peter Cook had said that Christie and 24-year-old Alexa often fought about appearance and weight, but Alexa countered those accusations on her Facebook Page, “Consider the source.”

Alexa says that the REAL reason she took more than the recommended amount of homeopathic pills, which led to hospitalization, was because she was suffering from “heartbreak-related depression.”

Alexa, you’re so brave for speaking out.

Alexa Ray Joel, 24, posted a note to her personal Facebook account today, one of her first public statements since she was hospitalized for a drug overdose on Dec. 5, 2009. She thanks her fans for their “encouraging posts,” which she says “never failed to cheer [her] up!” She also talks about what she’ll be working on in 2010, specifically her desire “to help young girls with something I feel I know a GREAT deal about: Heartbreak-Related Depression.”

“Although it does not get much attention in our society, it is a very serious and painful condition that often gets ‘swept under the carpet,’” she writes. “I hope to bring this topic more to light… I’m even going back to school for Psychology in hopes to learn more about this and many other afflictions that many of us have had to face… after all, there’s nothing more fascinating than the human mind and it’s respective conditions.”

Alexa, it must have taken a lot of courage to tell everyone about your condition. We can’t wait to see you accomplish all of these goals you’ve set for yourself — and remember to find time to relax and take it easy once in a while!
