Ellen Pompeo (born Ellen Kathleen Pompeo on November 10, 1969 in Everett, Massachusetts) is an American actress. When Ellen was in her mid-20s, she met fashion photographer Andrew Rosenthal while she was a waitress in Miami. Together, they moved to New York City in 1995 where she began her acting career. Ellen’s early work included commercials and small independent films. Her television debut came in 1996 with a guest-starring role on Law & Order. From there, she had guest roles on Strangers with Candy, Friends, and Strong Medicine. In 2001, Ellen moved to Los Angeles. A year later, her career took off when she was cast the lead in the 2002 film, Moonlight Mile. She followed that role with appearances in Catch Me If You Can, Old School and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Her breakout came in 2005 when she was cast as Meredith Grey, the lead in Shonda Rhimes’ ABC medical drama, Grey’s Anatomy. Her work on the series has won her two People’s Choice Awards for Favorite Dramatic TV Actress. Despite her success, Ellen has said that she will not likely act after Grey Anatomy ends.

Ellen began dating music producer Chris Ivery in 2003. They were married in 2007 and have two children together: daughters Stella Luna and Sienna May. On Dec. 29, 2016, they confirmed they had a baby boy, Eli Christopher.
