Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky appeared to be one of the strongest couples on reality television, until they hit a snag in their relationship in early 2023. That July, news broke that the couple had separated, but since then there’s been a lot of confusion about whether or not Kyle and Mauricio are getting divorced. Mauricio has given some updates on his marriage on Dancing with the Stars, while Kyle will share her side of the story on the upcoming season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, which was filmed before the couple officially broke up after over 25 years of marriage. 1994: Kyle and Mauricio Meet at a Nightclub
Kyle met Mauricio at a nightclub when she was 23 years old. At the time, Kyle was two years removed from her divorce from Guraish Aldjufrie, and was a single parent to their daughter Farrah Brittany Aldjufrie, who was born in October 1988. After several months of dating, Mauricio proposed to Kyle at a restaurant in Santa Monica, California. And she said yes!
January 1996: Kyle and Mauricio Get Married
Kyle and Mauricio tied the knot on January 20, 1996. Kyle was four months pregnant with the couple’s first child together when she got married to Mauricio.
Kyle talked about being pregnant at her wedding in an interview with The Knot in 2021. “The wedding was originally going to be I believe in April, and then we moved it up to January so my dress would still fit, because I was pregnant,” she shared. Kyle also said that Farrah, who was seven years old at the time, was in her wedding party.
June 1996: Kyle and Mauricio Welcome Daughter Alexia
Alexia Simone Umansky was born on June 18, 1996, five months after her parents got married. Alexia is Kyle’s second daughter and Mauricio’s first.
January 2000: Kyle and Mauricio Welcome Daughter Sophia
Sophia Kyle Umansky was born on January 18, 2000. Sophia is Kyle’s third daughter and Mauricio’s second.
March 2008: Kyle and Mauricio Welcome Daughter Portia
Portia Umansky was born on March 1, 2008. Portia is Kyle’s fourth daughter and Mauricio’s second. She was only a toddler when RHOBH premiered.
October 2010: Kyle and Mauricio Begin Starring on RHOBH
The first episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills aired on October 14, 2010. The show introduced Kyle and Mauricio and their four daughters to Bravo viewers. Kyle’s sister, Kim Richards, was also an original cast member on the show. At the time, Mauricio was working at Hilton & Hyland, owned by Kyle’s other sister, Kathy Hilton, and her husband, Rick Hilton. In 2011, Mauricio left the company to start his own real estate firm called The Agency, which caused drama for Kyle and her family.
2013: Kyle and Mauricio Face Cheating Rumors
Kyle and Mauricio dealt with cheating rumors during season 4 of RHOBH, which filmed in 2013. Lisa Vanderpump was caught trying to bring up a tabloid about Mauricio allegedly cheating on Kyle. The couple vehemently denied the rumors at the time and stood strong against their doubters.
January 2021: Kyle and Mauricio Celebrate Their 25th Anniversary
Kyle and Mauricio hit 25 years of marriage on January 20, 2021. They both celebrated the milestone on Instagram, and Kyle’s tribute to Mauricio was especially heartfelt. “25 years ago today we said ‘I do’. We have built a life together that I am so proud of,” the Halloween actress said. “Our family is my greatest accomplishment. I still get happy when I hear your car pull in the driveway and still get sad if we have to spend a night apart. How is that even possible?? May we continue to grow, learn, explore, experience & create incredible memories side by side. I love you forever.”
July 2023: News Breaks of Kyle and Mauricio’s Reported Separation
After 27 years of marriage, PEOPLE reported on July 3 that Kyle and Mauricio had separated. “Kyle and Mauricio have been separated for a while now but are still living under the same roof,” an insider told the outlet at the time. “They remain amicable as they figure out what’s next for them and their family.”
That same day, Kyle and Mauricio put out a statement asserting that no divorce was in the works. “In regards to the news that came out about us today…any claims regarding us divorcing are untrue,” they shared in a joint Instagram statement. “However, yes, we have had a rough year. The most challenging one of our marriage. But we both love and respect each other tremendously.”
They also pushed back on any speculation about “wrongdoing” during the relationship. That seemed to be in reference to the rumors about Kyle’s relationship with country singer Morgan Wade. “There has been no wrongdoing on anyone’s part,” the statement read. “Although we are in the public eye, we ask to be able to work through our issues privately. While it may be entertaining to speculate, please don’t create false stories to fit a further salacious narrative.”
September 2023: Mauricio Confirms He’s Separated from Kyle
After months of speculation, Mauricio gave an update on the state of his marriage The Agency Dallas’ Red Mic podcast in September. “I mean, certainly, we’re not separated,” Mauricio said. “We’re not divorced at this point. We are not any of that stuff.” He also went on to went on to call 26 years of marriage to Kyle “amazing” while he also called one of those years “difficult.”
Mauricio later clarified his statements about his marriage to TMZ on September 29. “We are currently separated, we are not talking about divorce and we’re trying to deal with this stuff internally with ourselves privately,” he said. Mauricio added, “It’s very hard when everybody interprets everything you said. When I answered the question on that podcast about where we stand, the question was did Kyle and I plant the story to create ratings in order to create all kinds of different things. And the answer was we did not plant the story.”
October 2023: The RHOBH Trailer Shows Mauricio and Kyle’s Marital Drama
The RHOBH season 13 trailer is mostly about Kyle and Mauricio’s marital struggles. The women speculate about Kyle’s relationships with both Mauricio and Morgan. At the end of the trailer, Kyle and Mauricio sit down with their daughters seemingly to tell them they are separating. “We are a very strong family, and we always will be,” Kyle said through tears. “Always will be. Nothing can change that.”
