Kate Spade Fall 2013 Fashion Week: Get Fierce Claw Nails

Nail stylist Deborah Lippmann‘s artistic creation for the Kate Spade Fall 2013 show nails were Studio 54-inspired spiky talons. She created her signature “stiletto nails” style in two colors for the show and both styles truly complimented the retro collection! To get the punchy pink shade, the nail team started with two coats of Deborah Lippmann’s Amazing Grace, an opaque pure white shade. For dimension, a coat of pink I Kissed A Girl was added over the white before the fuchsia topper Between The Sheets. Deborah explained that layering the different shades of pink let the blue undertones really shine through for a multidimensional effect. The edgy black nails seen on other models had a vinyl record black sheen, created with two coats of Deborah Lippmann’s Fade To Black.

These almond-shaped nails are all about precision. Deborah explained that the edgy gold pyramid stud that adorned each nail was placed precisely 1/8th of an inch above the cuticle.

Kate Spade Fashion Week: New York Inspired Makeup — Get The Look

Makeup for the Kate Spade presentation was done by Jouer Cosmetics. Makeup artist Neil Scibelli explained that the fresh look was one of the “totally modern New York girl.” Perfect dewey skin, jet black winged liner, and powerful red lips referenced the collection’s disco theme but turned the style into an easy-to-wear New York City chic style. Jouer’s Complexion Perfector evened out the models’ skin tones for the most gorgeous glow. For a “true red” look, makeup artists used Jouer Lipstick in Simone for mega impact. 

Fashion Week NY: Kate Spade’s Big, Disco-Worthy Hair From Garnier

Garnier Lead Hair Stylist Tommy Buckett explained that the retro hair at the Kate Spade show was all about volume and hold. “It’s very crafted, definitely not beachy,” he explained to us as he added hot rollers to the models’ hair for bounce and body. The Kate Spade Mercedes Benz Presentation was so colorful, it was only fitting the makeup and nails were equally as vibrant!

The makeup look was created by created by Neil Scibelli for Jouer Cosmetics.“This season’s look is inspired by 80′s rock-and-roll. It’s retro meets rockabilly-chic, with bold pops of color,” says Neil.

He used Jouer Matte Moisture Tint to create a clean and glowing base for the skin. He lined the eyes with a white kohl pencil liner, working straight out and added a mint-green/aqua-hued shadow to fill the lid above the liner, winging out the ends to provide extra drama.

Jouer Tint in Peony was used for a pop of bubblegum pink on the cheeks, and the area above the  cheekbone was highlighted with Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint.

Neil finished the look with Jouer’s Hydrating Lipstick in Olivia, topped with Jouer’s Essential Lip Enhancer for extra shine.

Deborah Lippmann created the gingham nail patterns to complete the look. They were created with two coats of Amazing Grace, an opaque pure white as the base. Striping brushes were used to paint the lines for the gingham pattern. Pink patterns were created with I Kissed A Girl.
