With an overflowing ER, the doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital were in the midst of chaos on the March 28 episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Plus, a concerned mother (Sarah Chalke) repeatedly brought her son to the hospital, insisting there was something wrong with him that the doctors weren’t finding. Did her son really have a rare illness, or was she making it all up?

A serious car accident sent a family of three to the ER. While Derek (Patrick Dempsey) performed brain surgery on the mother, Cristina (Sandra Oh) took the father into heart surgery, leaving their young son alone in the hospital. Thankfully for the boy, Owen (Kevin McKidd) agreed to let him stay over night at the hospital instead of going with a social worker.

After a mother was sent home when her child tested positive for strep throat, she returned to the hospital, insisting there’s something different wrong with him. While some doctors thought she may be crazy, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) was on her side. The mother presented Mere with research she had done on her own, but none of the symptoms seemed to add up.

Callie (Sara Ramirez) received an invitation to a prestigious conference, but was forced to miss it when she had an emergency patient. When Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) accidentally made a comment about how it was good that Callie missed the conference because she needed to work on her speech, Callie got very upset. Luckily, Callie got over it when Arizona and the Chief (James Pickens Jr.) surprised her by arranging for her to do the speech from the hospital via camera.

Avery (Jesse Williams) and April (Sarah Drew) were forced to work together when they were both assigned to a pregnant patient who was injured in an oil tank explosion. After the patient died, April was extremely upset and relied on Avery for consoling. The duo had a moment where they almost kissed, but of course, Alex (Justin Chambers) interrupted them.

Meredith relied on her mother’s intuition when she still couldn’t find any answers for her patient’s mom. When she learned the strep test was a false positive, she immediately realized the boy’s mother had been right all along. The boy was diagnosed with Kawasaki Disease just in time to avoid any permanent damage to his heart!

Inspired by her patient’s mother, Meredith went to Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and asked for her to do gene mapping for her and Zola — which means Meredith will finally find out if she has Alzheimer’s like her mother!

The newly named Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital was buzzing with excitement as it reopened its ER on the March 21 episode of Grey’s Anatomy. With the hospital finally revamped and moving in a positive direction, the doctors were excited about their new roles as owners of the hospital — but can they handle the pressure?

All of the doctors were super enthusiastic about the ER reopening, especially Owen (Kevin McKidd), who purchased a very expensive state-of-the-art body scan machine. The doctors were eager to try out the new toy, but unfortunately, it would be a while before a patient could christen the machine.

With Meredith’s (Ellen Pompeo) baby growing everyday, the surgeon became paranoid about all the possible things that could be wrong with her. Meanwhile, Derek (Patrick Dempsey) got some fatherly practice when he mentored Shane (Gaius Charles) through a brain surgery on a young girl with a difficult father.

After getting a new, more realistic prosthetic leg, Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) was feeling sexy for the first time since the plane crash — and Callie (Sara Ramirez) agreed. The couple finally seemed like things were going to be heating back up, but a quarrel between the pair quickly put the fire out.

Inspired by the improvement of the hospital, Bailey (Chandra Wilson) was on a mission to get other doctors to support a special genome research project. Cristina (Sandra Oh) was also on a quest for innovation after a former classmate’s achievements were brought to her attention. She got the opportunity she was looking for when the head of cardio asked her to scrub in on a unique heart surgery. Unfortunately for Cristina, the surgeon was more interested in her powerful position at the hospital rather than her surgery skills.

Although Alex (Justin Chambers) still refused to admit his feelings for Jo (Camilla Luddington), he was obviously jealous over her new romance with Jason (Charles Michael Davis). To make himself feel a little bit better, Alex and his child cancer patient decide to play practical jokes on Jason including paging him all over the hospital looking for a patient named “Jenny Tailia” and giving a cup of pee to Bailey for a drug test.

To spite the cardio surgeon who used her for her power, Cristina took away the funding for his project and gave to Bailey for her study. Cristina killed two birds with one stone because without the funding, the surgeon was forced to let her work with him on the case. Callie realized she was being insensitive towards Arizona and sweetly apologized, which was the perfect way to ignite the spark back into their relationship!

To calm her fears about having a baby whose blind or has 11 fingers, Meredith and Derek did an ultrasound to check up on their little one and found out some exciting news — it’s a boy!

Due to the hospital’s financial crisis, Alanna (Constance Zimmer), a physician’s advisor, arrived at Seattle Grace Mercy West on the Jan. 24 episode of Grey’s Anatomy. She wasted no time observing every aspect of the hospital to determine every extra luxury that could be cut — which caused quite a stir at the hospital.

But the advisor wasn’t the only one to shake things up! Meredith’s (Ellen Pompeo) pregnancy hormones were running rampant, which caused major problems for Shane (Gaius Charles), the unlucky intern on her service. Cracking under the pressure of an irritable Meredith, Shane accidentally ruined the liver that was supposed to be transplanted into their patient, leading Mere to explode.

It seemed like Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) was finally back to normal this week, until she encountered a new problem with her leg: phantom leg pains. Even though Arizona’s leg is gone, she was haunted by nightmares that her leg was still there and ripping apart in front of her eyes.

After months of recovery, Derek (Patrick Dempsey) finally returned to work by performing a whopping 23 hour surgery. Alanna wanted to sit in on the surgery, but Jo (Camilla Luddington) cleverly lied about the time to keep her out. Unfortunately, she still made her way into the OR, but was immediately kicked about by Derek. And thankfully, the surgery was a success!

Luckily for Shane, a new liver quickly became available for Meredith’s patient. Unfortunately, the liver was in Portland, which meant the doctors would have to fly there to get it. Still weary from the plane crash, Meredith refused to accompany Shane to get the liver. But at the last minute, Meredith found the courage to face her fear and joined Shane on the flight.

With the new advisor cutting costs, Alex (Justin Chambers) was worried his pro bono program for African orphans would be the first thing to go. Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Arizona teamed up to operate on one of Alex’s African patients. Surprisingly, the charitable surgery warmed Cristina’s cold heart and she became a huge supporter of the program.

During the surgery, Arizona started having the phantom pains again. Panicked, she made Alex stab her in the foot so she would realize she couldn’t feel the pain in that leg.

Much to April’s (Sarah Drew) dismay, Avery (Jesse Williams) and Stephanie’s (Jerrika Hinton) relationship was still in full swing. Lucky for her, she was unexpectedly asked out by a super-cute EMT!

At the end of the day, all of the doctors gathered to hear Alanna’s assessment of the hospital finances. Her first proposal was that Seattle Grace Mercy West close its E.R. All of the doctors were in an uproar over the loss of such a vital part of their hospital, but surprisingly Bailey (Chandra Wilson) defended Alanna’s idea!

A month after Adele’s (Loretta Devine) death, the doctors’ lawsuit against the hospital was finally over on the Jan. 17 episode of Grey’s Anatomy. The judge found the hospital “negligent” for choosing an airline that had a history of mechanical problems and awarded Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), Derek (Patrick Dempsey), Arizona (Jessica Capshaw), Cristina (Sandra Oh), and Callie (Sara Ramirez) $15 million — each!

After a month of recovery time from his hand surgery, Derek finally returned to work. While Derek was eager to get back in the OR, Callie had other plans for the brain surgeon. Derek was stuck practicing his wrist strength by playing ping pong with Shane (Gaius Charles), which ended up serving as entertainment for the other doctors.

Avery (Jesse Williams) inherited Sloan’s (Eric Dane) long-time patient with facial bone deformities. Although Sloan had previously set up a plan for the patient to follow, Avery wanted to take a different approach, which caused some tension with Arizona. Avery stuck with his decision to go with his approach, and lucky for him, the surgery was a success!

Although the lawsuit was finally settled, the air wasn’t completely cleared. A huge weight may have been lifted from Owen’s (Kevin McKidd) shoulders, but Derek still held a grudge against him because he made the decision to choose the faulty airline.

Meanwhile, Alex (Justin Chambers) was becoming baffled by his new friendship with Jo (Camilla Luddington) after spending more solely platonic time together. (Of course, Alex doesn’t know how to function in a relationship with a girl that doesn’t involve sex.)

Alex wasn’t the only one having relationship issues; Avery revealed to April (Sarah Drew) that he had been sleeping with Stephanie (Jerrika Hinton) since Bailey’s (Chandra Wilson) wedding. Reacting like any woman in her position would, April continued to push Avery away by telling him she wasn’t ready to be his friend.

After Adele’s death, everyone was walking on eggshells around the Chief (James Pickens Jr.). Although he refused the doctors attempts to comfort him, he was finally able to open up to Katherine (Debbie Allen) and accepted her support.

With Meredith’s second trimester approaching, Derek urged Meredith to finally share her pregnancy news with Cristina. She had her perfect opportunity at a celebratory dinner for the lawsuit with Derek, Callie, Arizona, and Cristina. After refusing to take part in the champagne toast, Meredith gleefully announced she was pregnant. The dinner also helped soften Derek’s heart, and he called Owen to let him know he had no hard feelings over the crash.

Although things finally seemed to be looking up for Owen, that wasn’t the case. The insurance company that was supposed to pay the doctors found a loophole so they refused to pay. Now, Seattle Grace Mercy West will be forced to pay off the doctors, causing the hospital to go bankrupt.

After Bailey (Chandra Wilson) didn’t show up to her wedding to Ben (Jason George), everyone was left anxiously awaiting her arrival on the Jan. 10 episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Thankfully, Ben was notified that Bailey didn’t get a case cold feet. Instead, she went into emergency surgery after the Chief’s (James Pickens Jr.) wife Adele (Loretta Devine) was admitted to the hospital.

Instead of canceling the wedding, Ben postponed the ceremony until Bailey was finished with Adele’s surgery. While waiting for Bailey to return, some of the doctors ditched their wedding attire for scrubs and headed back to the hospital to help with a serious accident involving a motorcycle gang.

Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) chose to kill time by getting a hotel room to spice things up for the first time since Arizona’s leg amputation. Although it was Arizona’s idea to get the room, she later chickened out because she was still self-conscious about her leg.

Alex (Justin Chambers) and Jo (Camilla Luddington) also decided to stay at the hotel and spent their time at the bar flirting and swapping stories. Their bonding continued when the tipsy duo decided impersonate someone else to snag a free hotel rom.

In an attempt to distract themselves from each other, April (Sarah Drew) and Avery (Jesse Williams) focused on (overly) flirting with Shane (Gaius Charles) and Stephanie (Jerrika Hinton). Shane refused April’s advances, Stephanie did not refuse Avery’s and the pair ended up hooking up.

Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) rushed back to the hospital to assist Bailey with Adele’s surgery. When the doctors seemed to have run out of options, Chief intervened and was able to save Adele’s life with his suggestion.

After an unexpected hook up, Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) were forced to reevaluate their plans to divorce. As usual, they left things a little more than confusing. Although Owen advised they still get divorced and Cristina signed the papers, the on-again off-again couple ended their conversation by kissing.

Since Bailey’s surgery was a success, the doctors returned to the wedding to watch Bailey and Ben exchange vows. Chief even showed up at the reception to support Bailey, but unfortunately it came at a price. Although the surgery seemed to be successful, Adele died a few hours later after a heart attack.

So many of our favorite leading ladies from both the screen and stage stepped out for the 2013 People’s Choice Awards in LA on Jan. 9 — and it looks like winter white was a major theme! So many stars looked stunning in the neutral shade, and I love the way each celeb gave the look their own signature spin.

For starters, there was Taylor Swift — and with the plunging neckline on her Ralph Lauren gown you couldn’t miss her! All eyes were on the singing star when she walked down the red carpet, proving that looking good really is the best revenge following her split with One Direction member Harry Styles. The star, who often loves embellished dresses and anything metallic, kept it classic, simple and chic — it was a winning combination! While Taylor definitely was the most show-stopping, she wasn’t the only star who stood out in the shade.

Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo also stood out in the shade when she took to the stage in a lovely Lanvin gown. The actress added a black leather belt from the fashion house to her ensemble, accentuating her waist in the draped dress.

At first glance I thought Morena Baccarin, (who plays Jess on Homeland), was wearing a dress, but she actually wowed in a white strapless Donna Karan Atelier jumpsuit. A Swarovski clutch and Norman Silverman earrings finished off her simple yet chic ensemble.

Last but not least, Olivia Munn also wowed in white. The petite star wore a dress that featured black lace detailing — it was feminine, stylish and chic!

I loved seeing white on the red carpet last night, and these stylish stars all pulled it off effortlessly, but which white look did you like best?

In a last stitch effort to repair Derek’s (Patrick Dempsey) hand, his sister Lizzie (Neve Campbell) arrived in Seattle to donate a nerve to him on the Dec. 6 episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Meanwhile, the new interns learned just how difficult it is to earn the respect of their attendings.

Heather (Tina Majorino) was unhappy when she learned she was paired with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), or “Medusa” as the interns refer to her. Nevertheless, she was eager to help with Meredith’s surgery, but she quickly got the shaft and had to act as Meredith’s personal assistant instead. After much effort, Heather was unsuccessful in earning Meredith’s respect, especially when she accidentally spilled the beans about Meredith’s pregnancy to Callie (Sara Ramirez)!

The pressure was on for Jo (Camilla Luddington) when she was forced to make a life-or-death decision for a patient because Alex (Justin Chambers) wasn’t immediately available. Although she was beaming with pride, she was quickly knocked down by Alex, who relentlessly taunted her for having a “rich girl” exterior. Jo finally reached her breaking point and revealed to Alex that he was very wrong about her background.

Stephanie (Jerrika Hinton) and Leah (Tessa Ferrer) assisted Cristina (Sandra Oh) on two separate cases involving infants in dire need of heart transplants. They battled each other to impress Cristina, hoping to earn a spot in a surgery. When a heart became available for one of the babies, Stephanie was the intern who was chosen to scrub in. Later, competition got the best of the girls and they were both thrown off another case.

Shane (Gaius Charles) was assigned to April’s (Sarah Drew) service, assisting with outpatient procedures. He initially acted immaturely about his gross “lump and bump” patients, but he quickly learned the importance of putting in his time in the “slums.”

Shane impressed the attendings with his freshly learned lesson and earned himself the coveted intern spot in Derek’s hand surgery. But in order for Callie to operate on Derek’s hand, a donated nerve was needed. Much to Derek’s dismay, his sister Lizzie arrived in town and volunteered to donate!

After a tough day of assisting, the new interns of Seattle Grace Mercy West gained a newfound respect for their superiors.

Few things remain secret for long in the hallowed halls of Seattle Grace Mercy West, so you know it’s only a matter of time before everyone finds out that Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) are expecting a future intern. “[Everyone] goes to dinner, but [Meredith] can’t drink, and she’s forced to tell them why,” Ellen recently revealed to HollywoodLife.com‘s sister site TVLine. (Of course there’s drinking involved!)

The Nov. 29 episode of Grey’s Anatomy episode ended with Meredith telling Derek she’s three weeks pregnant, but there’s one more person she needs to clue in — and I do mean person.

“In that one scene we shot she seems genuinely happy,” Ellen tells TVLine of how Cristina (Sandra Oh) takes the news. ”We haven’t filmed any scenes yet where we discuss it. She actually figures it out on her own [before that], because she sees me eating, and [realizes] my boobs got big — which is funny because, obviously, my boobs didn’t get bigger.”

But even though Cristina is happy for Meredith, it doesn’t sound like this news will reduce the baby-sized wedge between them.

“Ultimately, they have to grow up,” Ellen concedes. “The older you get the more realistic it is that you’re significant other is your significant other. I mean, you’ll always have your girlfriends or your guy friends, but the person you’re married to is usually you’re No. 1.”
