If you weren’t suffering multiple heart attacks at the end of the June 2 episode of Game of Thrones, it must have been because — like several fan-favorite characters — you were already dead. The season’s penultimate episode took at least one major player out of the ‘game,’ and I can’t imagine how next week’s finale can possibly compete.

After finally having weird cave sex last week, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Ygritte climbed the next wall of their relationship on the May 5 episode of Game Of Thrones. Only their new ‘wall’ wasn’t metaphorical. It was very much the literal Wall of Westeros, and they nearly died trying to climb over.

Daenerys (literally) turned up the heat on her enemies this week, reminding us all what a khaleesi is capable of.
I typically end every Game of Thrones episode feeling sufficiently full and satisfied, but then there are a few “moments” in each season that leave me stunned, excited and covered in goosebumps. Thanks to Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) and her newfound ‘take no prisoners’ approach to life, I feel like we finally got season three’s first such “moment” on the April 21 episode — in a scene so powerful, I practically knelt in front of my TV and swore my undying allegiance to the khaleesi right then and there.

Tyrion’s (Peter Dinklage) life may have become become a twisted re-telling of Pretty Woman, but the May 20 episode of Game of Thrones couldn’t have been less of a romantic comedy. When Tyrion tried to ship Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) off to war, Cersei (Lena Headey) used “his” whore as leverage to keep her son safe. Of course, there’s one very important details Cersei seems to have missed…

Plus, Theon continues his quest to become the worst. character. ever.
My mantra has gone from “Kill Joffrey” to “Kill Theon” over the course of the season, and my contempt for the little Stark-crosser grew ten-fold on Game of Thrones’ May 13 episode. Theon (Alfie Allen) was most displeased that his flunkies let Bran (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) and Rickon (who I forget exists each week) escape Winterfell. Unable to track them down, he faked their deaths to send a message to all of Westeros. You know, so now everyone can hate him as much as the viewers already do.

The ‘Mother of Dragons’ was temporarily dethroned this week — and she wasn’t the only one!
It wasn’t a great week to be a member of House Stark — except for little Arya (Maisie Williams), who managed to become Tywin Lannister’s (Charles Dance) most trusted servant while simultaneously avoiding exposure during a surprise visit from Petyr Baelish (Aiden Gillen) on Game of Thrones’ May 6 episode. Come to think of it, how the heck does “Littlefinger” Petyr move around Westeros so quickly? I feel like he’s everywhere all the time.

Spoiler alert: Stop reading if you haven’t watched the April 22 episode of ‘Game of Thrones!’
If your children ever ask you where babies come from, for the love of Westeros, don’t show them the final scene from this week’s Game of Thrones. Childbirth is gross enough as it is without the unholy image of Melisandre (Carice van Houten) screaming and pushing a full-grown shadow creature out of her priestess hoo-ha. I guess Stannis (Stephen Dillane) finally got that son he was hoping for, even if he does share partial paternity with the Lord of Light. I don’t envy whoever has to fill out that birth certificate.

Murder, adultery, incest — no one does Easter like the good people of Westeros.
Game of Thrones fans have used many words to describe Melisandre (Carice van Houten) after she made her debut on last week’s season premiere — evil, shady and cryptic come to mind — but the April 8 episode added one more to that already colorful list: slutty! The “priestess” offered herself up to Stannis (Stephen Dillane), promising to deliver him the son his wife never could. And as an added layer of poetry, Stannis wrecked Melisandre on a map of Westeros, sending all the pieces crashing to the floor. Foreshadowing much?
