Bellamy Young (born Amy Maria Young on February 19, 1970 in Asheville, North Carolina) is an American television, film and theatre actress. Bellamy loved performing from an early age, participating in singing engagements, plays and pageants as a youth. She was North Carolina’s Junior Miss in 1987. Bellamy graduated from Asheville High School in 1987 and enrolled in Yale University. After graduating Yale with a double major in English and Theatre Studies in 1991, she spent a semester studying at the British American Drama Academy at Oxford University. She began her career on the stage, appearing on a number of Broadway and off-Broadway productions of The Life, Merrily We Roll Along and Faust. Bellamy made her television debut with a recurring role on the NBC daytime soap, Another World, in 1995. In 1999, she appeared in her first movie with a small role in the crime drama, Black and White. Bellamy has made multiple appearances on television programs such as The X Files, ER, Supernatural and Scrubs. In 2011, she was cast as the role of First Lady Melody “Mellie” Grant on the Shonda Rhimes political thriller, Scandal. In 2014, her work on the show won her the Critic’s Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
