Biography:
Ayesha Curry (born Ayesha Disa Alexander on March 23, 1989 in Toronto, Canada) is a Canadian-American actress, model, and chef. She grew up in the Toronto suburb of Markham and was named after Stevie Wonder’s daughter, who was name-dropped in his hit song “Isn’t She Lovely”. She moved to Charlotte, North Carolina with her family at the age of 14, and quickly became inspired by activity in the kitchen. Her mom ran a salon out of the family’s basement and would make traditional Trinidadian curry and roti to bring down to customers. After high school, Ayesha moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting.
Career:
She landed a series of small guest spots before making a name for herself in the industry, including a starring role on a drama called Whittaker Bay. After the eight-episode show aired in 2008, she landed a guest role on Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana, alongside its breakout star Miley Cyrus. She made another appearance on the Disney Channel in 2010 on Good Luck Charlie, however she called it quits in Hollywood shortly after. Years later, she would return to the industry to play herself in an episode of the sports-themed show Ballers.
Ayesha’s career in the kitchen and as a culinary media personality began in 2012. She launched her blog and YouTube channel titled ‘Little Lights of Mine’ and used the platform to share her love of cooking. It wasn’t long before she was picked up by the Food Network and began hosting a show called Ayesha’s Homemade in 2016. The TV show featured the mom creating meals for her family, inspiring other busy parents to get creative in the kitchen. The following year she was named a co-host on the third season of The Great American Baking Show. She also went on to appear as a judge on the Food Network shows Chopped Junior and Guy’s Grocery Games. Ayesha has also showed off her culinary skills on The Rachael Ray Show and Good Morning America. In 2017, she also brought her skills to the masses, producing her own line of aprons, olive oil, and later cookware. The eponymous line featured everything from pots and pans to bacon grease jars. She also published a cookbook: her first book, The Seasoned Life, is comprised of more than 100 of her favorite recipes. Ayesha has also served as an ambassador for programs that aim to promote healthy eating choices, and end childhood hunger including No Kid Hungry and Team FNV.
Personal Life:
Ayesha and her husband, NBA star Stephen Curry met when they were just teenagers, while they were both members of the Central Church of God in Charlotte, North Carolina. Their romance reignited when Ayesha moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting, and Steph was a college basketball star. She later moved back to their hometown, near where Steph was attending university at Davidson College, and the pair wed in July 2011. A little over a year later in 2012, Ayesha gave birth to their first child, Riley Elizabeth Curry. In July of 2015, she welcomed the birth of her second child, Ryan Carson Curry. The couple had their third child, a baby boy, Canon W. Jack Curry in July of 2018. The family currently resides in California.
