Maria went pro at the age of 17 in 2004, when she defeated top-seeded Serena Williams in the 2004 Wimbledon final. It was her first major championship. Maria became the top-ranked female player in tennis for the first time in 2005. As of 2013, Maria had won four major titles, one for each major tournament. Besides being one of the most noteworthy tennis players around, Maria has also been featured in many modeling campaigns, including a feature in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue and ads for Nike, Canon, and Cole Haan.
