Kevin McCarthy (born Kevin Owen McCarthy on January 26, 1965 in Bakersfield, California) is an American politician. Kevin opened his first business when he was just 19, a deli, after he won five thousand dollars in the lottery. He sold the deli to attend California State University at Bakersfield, graduating in 1989 with a degree in Marketing. In 1994, he got his M.B.A. Kevin became the chairman of the California Young Republicans in 1995 and from 1999 to 2001, he chaired the Young Republican National Federation. He won his first election in 200, becoming a Kern Community College District trustee. He was elected to the California State Assembly in 2002, and was elected to the US House of Representatives in 2006. He won the general election with 70% of the vote. He was reelected in 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014. He was elected House Majority Whip from 2011 to 2014 and was elected House majority leader in 2014. In September 2015, after House speaker John Boehner resigned from the position and stated he wanted Kevin to replace him. Kevin announced his candidacy for the position but dropped out of the race on Oct. 8.

Personal Life:
Kevin is married. He and his wife, Judy, have two children together. Kevin is pro-life, against enacting any climate change legislation that would raise taxes. In Sept. 2015, Kevin said some offhanded comments about the Benghazi special committee that invested Hillary Clinton. These comments were interpreted by some as an admission that the investigation was meant to damage Hillary’s popularity and not to actually investigate the 2012 Benghazi attacks.
