Bio:
Alex Greenwald (born Alexander Greenwald on October 9, 1979 in Los Angeles, California) is an American musician, actor and record producer. Alex attended UCLA Lab School, and early on, Alex pursued a career in performing. In addition to modeling for The Gap, he began acting as a teenager, appearing alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Seth Rogen in Donnie Darko. However, Alex’s first passion is music. He learned how to play piano as a toddler, before his mother taught him to pay the guitar around the age of 10. In the 1990s, Alex formed the band Phantom Planet, which featured Jason Schwartzman as a drummer. They released their first album, Phantom Planet Is Missing, in 1998. Their big breakthrough came in 2002 with the release of The Guest. The power ballad, “California,” blew up, especially when the song was choses as the theme for Fox Network’s hit TV series, The O.C.. Alex wanted to pursue more garage rock sound with their following albums, before disbanding in 2008. Alex reunited with the rest of Phantom Planet in 2011 for a pair of shows. Alex has gone on to produce songs and records for musicians like Ryan Ross, The Like and more. Alex is also one of the musicians in Mark Ronson & The Business International. In 2016, Alex’s new band, Phases, announced they were playing Coachella.
