Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (born Ralph Dale Earnhardt, Jr. in Kannapolis, North Carolina on October 10, 1974) is a American race car driver and team owner for NASCAR. His grandfather was a car builder and his father was the famed NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt. He began his racing career in 1999, competing at Motorsport Park at the young age of 17, and he owned his first race car with his half brother, Kerry Earnhardt. After nearly 20 years of racing, Dale Jr. announced he would retire from full-time NASCAR racing at the end of the 2017 season.
