Ryan Adams (born David Ryan Adams on November 5, 1974 in Jacksonville, North Carolina) is an American singer-songwriter and musician. Ryan began writing music when he was 8-years-old, and by the time he was a teenager, he was learning to play the electric guitar. He dropped out of high school to live with fellow musicians n Jacksonville. He obtained his GED and moved to Raleigh. In the late ‘90s, Ryan moved towards alt-country, forming the band Whiskeytown. By 2001, the band broke up but Ryan was on his way to becoming a noted solo artist. In the early 2000s, he released two solo records, Heartbreaker and Gold. In 2003, Ryan released Love Is Hell Parts 1 and 2, gaining more critical praise. In 2005, Ryan joined The Cardinals. Together, they produced three albums and an EP. He quit the band in 2009, citing hearing loss and disillusionment with the music industry. He returned to music in 2010, releasing a metal influenced album, Orion, and an EP with his punk band, Pornography. His self-titled album was released in 2014. In 2015, Ryan covered Taylor Swift’s 1989 album in the manner of The Smiths.
