2022 Celebrity Health Scares: Celine Dion & More — Health scares can happy to anyone, at any time, even celebrities. This means A-listers have had their fair share of health issues this year.

Celine Dion revealed she was suffering from a rare neurological condition called “Stiff Person Syndrome” in Dec. 2022. Explaining to fans why she had to cancel her tour, she told Instagram, “I miss you so much. I miss seeing all of you, being on the stage, performing for you.”

“I always give 100 percent when I do my shows, but my condition is not allowing me to do that right now. For me to reach you again, I have no choice but to concentrate on my health at this moment and I have hope that I’m on the road to recovery. That is my focus and I’m doing everything that I can to recuperate.”

Jane Fonda — Jane Fonda revealed she was in treatment for Non-Hodgskins Lymphoma in Sep. 2022. She said she was optimistic but also “realistic” about death in a Nov. interview with Entertainment Tonight.

Justin Bieber — Justin Bieber has struggled with his health over the years, dealing with chronic Lyme Disease, addiction, and more. In July 2022, he revealed Ramsay Hunt Syndrome left him with half his face paralyzed.

He had to cancel upcoming shows, telling fans, “This is pretty serious as you can see. I wish this wasn’t the case. But obviously, my body is telling me I need to slow down.”

Hailey Bieber

Hailey Bieber — Hailey Bieber has also been enduring health problems. She had an incident with a blood clot in Mar 2022, which she called the “scariest moment of my life.” It was successfully avoided by surgery. Just a few months later in Nov. 2022, however, the model was hit with a painful ovarian cyst.

Updating fans on the couple’s health woes in Jul. 2022 with Jimmy Fallon, she said, “I am doing OK. … I’m just kind of allowing my body the time to heal and do its thing, but I’m doing OK.

“[Justin’s] also doing OK. Obviously, it’s been a weird turn of events the last couple months — the last even, few days — but he’s OK. He’s gonna be totally OK.”

Al Roker

Al Roker — Al Roker has been a fixture of morning TV, but he was forced to bow out from the 2022 holiday season after a series of health woes.

In late November, he was rushed to the hospital, leaving him unable to host Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade festivities for the first time in 27 years. Days later, Al was hospitalized again for blood clots, forcing him to skip the annual Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting. He was also absent from the show in Sep. 2022, after testing positive for COVID.

Halsey

Halsey — Halsey was hit by a slew of serious health diagnoses after being hospitalized in May 2022. The singer updated fans, telling them “Obviously my health has changed a lot since I got pregnant and gave birth.” She welcomed in Jul. 2021.

Halsey’s message went on to reveal that in addition to endometriosis, she was suffering from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Sjogren’s syndrome, mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS) and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS.) She assured fans she’d continue to perform, adding, “I don’t want anybody to be worrying. I’m on a treatment plan right now. I’m really excited and I’m confident that i’ll be able to do it in a way that’s healthy, where I can perform my best for all of you.”

Travis Barker

Travis Barker — Travis Barker was hospitalized in June 2022 after contracting pancreatitis following a colonoscopy. He gave fans an update days later, saying, “I went in for an endoscopy Monday feeling great,” he wrote. “But after dinner, I developed excruciating pain and have been hospitalized ever since. During the endoscopy, I had a very small polyp removed right in a very sensitive area, usually handled by specialists, which unfortunately damaged a critical pancreatic drainage tube. This resulted in severe life-threatening pancreatitis. I am so very very grateful that with intensive treatment, I am currently much better.”

Khloe Kardashian

Khloe Kardashian — Khloe Kardashian revealed that she had had a “rare” tumor removed from her face back in Oct. 2022. Addressing rumors around a bandage on her face, she told fans, “I have seen numerous stories going around about the ever-evolving bandage on my face, with some of you wondering why I’ve been wearing one for the past few weeks.

“After noticing a small bump on my face and assuming it was something as minor as a zit, I decided to get it biopsied 7 months after realizing it was not budging.” Doctors said “they both were seeing was incredibly rare.”

“A few days later I was told I need to have an immediate operation to remove a tumor from my face,” she went on. Luckily the operation was sucessful. Khloe signed off saying, “You’ll continue to see my bandages and when I’m allowed, you’ll probably see a scar (and an indention in my cheek from the tumor being removed) but until then I hope you enjoy how fabulous I’m making these face bandages look.”

Bruce Willis

Bruce Willis — Bruce Willis’ family announced that he would be retiring from acting in Mar. 2022, in light of his aphasia diagnosis.

Daughter Rumer shared the news via Instagram, telling fans, “To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities.

The statement continued, “As a result of this and with much consideration, Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him. This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support. We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him. As Bruce always says, ‘Live it up,’ and together we plan to do just that.”

Katie Couric — Katie Couric announced she had been diagnosed with breast cancer in Sep. 2022. Luckily, her particular tumor was considered “highly treatable, particularly if it was detected early.”

Sadly Katie’s family has a history with cancer. The newscasters first husband, Jay Monahan, died from colon cancer in 1998 at just 42. Her sister, Emily Couric, died of pancreatic cancer at 54, and her mother-in-law, Carol, died of ovarian cancer.

Artem Chigvintsev — Artem Chigvintsev was forced to bow out of Dancing With The Stars live tour in Jan. 2022 after discovering some “unexpected health issues.” He later revealed to fans he was dealing with a lingering pneumonia infection.

Teresa Giudice — Teresa Giudice was hospitalized in Mar 2022 for an “emergency medical procedure.” It was later revealed that she needed an emergency appendix removal.

Chris Martin — Coldplay was forced to postpone their tour in Oct. 2022 after Chris Martin came down with a “serious lung infection.” They told fans with tickets to upcoming shows in Brazil, “To everyone in Brazil who was looking forward to these concerts, we’re extremely sorry for any disappointment and inconvenience, and we’re so grateful for your understanding at this challenging time where we need to prioritise Chris’ health.

“We’re optimistic that Chris will return to good health after the prescribed medical break and look forward to resuming the tour as soon as possible. To everyone affected, please accept our sincere apologies, and thank you as always for your love and support.”

Post Malone — Post Malone was hospitalized in Sep. 2022 after feelings “stabbing pain” and having “trouble breathing.” The issues may have been related to a fall he suffered during an earlier St. Louis set. Post Malone had to skip his Boston concert, but was back on the road by his Cleveland, Ohio date.

Ozzy Osbourne — Ozzy Osbourne’s health seemed to be on the decline in 2022, until the intervention of surgery. He’s long dealt with neck and back injuries after a 2003 quad biking accident and a 2019 fall. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2019.

By Sep. 2022, he revealed he was doing much better in a Good Morning America interview, telling everyone, “Since I’ve had the surgery, I’ve improved quite considerably.”

Jay Leno — Jay Leno suffered serious burns after a fire at the car connoisseur’s LA garage in late Nov. 2022. Though scary, Jay’s doctors assured fans he was on the road to recovery.

“Jay would like to let everyone know how thankful he is for the care he received, and is very appreciative of all of the well wishes,” they said. “He is looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with his family and friends and wishes everyone a wonderful holiday.”
