Taylor Hicks (born October 7, 1976 in Birmingham, Alabama) is an American singer. He won the fifth season of American Idol in 2006, defeating Katharine McPhee and Elliot Yamin. He released his first major label album, titled Taylor Hicks, in November 2006 and it went certified platinum in January 2007. However, in 2008, Taylor announced he parted ways with his Idol label. He starred as the Teen Angel in the national tour of Grease after playing the role on Broadway, but he was released in August 2008. In 2009, Taylor released another album, The Distance, from his own label Modern Whomp Records. When American Idol announced it was coming back to television on ABC, Hicks made headlines saying that Idol runner-up Chris Daughtry shouldn’t be a judge because he “didn’t win.”
