Bio:
Pat Tillman (born Patrick Tillman on November 6, 1976 in Fremont, California) was an American football player. He played football for Arizona Stated and was drafted to play for the Arizona Cardinals in 1998. Pat left his professional football career following the September 11 terrorist attacks to serve in the United States Army. He joined the Army Rangers and served several tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Army reported that Pat was killed on April 22, 2004 by enemy fire. On May 28, 2004, the Army notified the Tillman family that he died as a result of a friendly fire incident rather than in enemy fire. After his death, the Pat Tillman Foundation was established to carry on his legacy. The Pat Tillman Award was also founded as part of the ESPY Awards to athletes who have served.
