Pat Conroy (born Donald Patrick “Pat” Conroy on October 26, 1945 in Atlanta, Georgia) was a prolific American author. Pat wrote 11 books, including the bestsellers “The Prince of Tides” and “The Great Santini”. His other works: “My Reading Life”, “South of Broad”, “Beach Music”, “The Lords of Discipline”, “The Water is Wide”, “The Boo”, “My Losing Season” and the “Pat Conroy Cookbook”. His incredible work, “The Great Santini” was based on his terrible childhood at the hands of his father, a fighter pilot who went by that nickname. The novel was turned into a movie in 1979 starring Robert Duvall. “The Prince of Tides” was also made into a film in 1991, starring Barbra Streisand and Nick Nolte.

Personal Life:
Pat was married three times. He married Barbara Jones, a young widow with two daughters, Jessica and Melissa on October 10, 1969. Pat adopted both girls, and together he and Barbara had one daughter, Megan. They divorced in 1977. Pat then went on to marry Lenore Fletcher in 1981. He became stepfather to her two kids, Gregory and Emily, and he and Lenore had one daughter together, Susannah. They divorced in 1995. Pat married novelist Cassandra King in 1998, to whom he was still married to his dying day. Pat passed away of pancreatic cancer at the age of 70 on March 4, 2016 at his home in Beaufort, South Carolina.
