Nina Dobrev (born Nina Constantinova Dobreva in Sofia, Bulgaria on January 9, 1989) is a Bulgarian-Canadian actress best known for her role on The CW’s The Vampire Diaries. An avid gymnastics and yoga enthusiast, Nina was a model and actress in Canada (she starred on Degrassi: The Next Generation) before landing the lead role on The Vampire Diaries in 2009, where she began a real-life romance with co-star Ian Somerhalder. Nina had roles in 2010’s Chloe, 2012’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower and in 2014’s Let’s Be Cops. On Apr.6, 2015, Nina announced she would be leaving The Vampire Diaries at the end of the season.

Personal Life:
Outside of her role on the fan-frenzied Vampire Diaries, Nina has also attracted attention because of her hush-hush relationship with co-star Ian Somerhalder. The two confirmed their relationship in Sept. 2011, but separated in May 2013. Later, Nina dated Shaun White from 2020 until 2025.

It’s like she’d been bottling up all of her reactions from the millions of deaths in her family — her real parents, her fake parents, Jenna, Alaric, and now Jeremy — then decided to release it all in one CW-Emmy-worthy explosion of rage and grief.
