Maria Arias is the girlfriend of the late Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez and is pregnant with his unborn daughter. She is a former college psychology student who started dating Jose in May 2016. Maria became pregnant just weeks into their romance. Jose revealed on Sept. 19 that he was expecting his first baby, but didn’t identify Maria in a social media photo of her wearing a bikini and showing her bump. On Sept. 25, Jose and two friends were killed in a boating accident in Miami. The media incorrectly identified his ex Carla Mendoza as his baby mama at the time, when on Sept. 27 it was revealed that it was Maria who is expecting.
