Bio:
Lucy Liu (born Lucy Alexis Liu on December 2, 1968 in Queens, New York City) is an American actress. Lucy grew up in Queens, learning to speak Mandarin at home and beginning to study English when she was 5. After she graduated Stuyvesant High School in 1986, she enrolled in New York University before transferring to University of Michigan. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Asian languages and cultures. At age 19, Lucy was discovered by an agent on the subway. In 1989, she auditioned for a University of Michigan’s production of Alice In Wonderland. In 1992, she made her New York stage debut in Fairy Bones. Her early television career was full of small roles on The X-Files and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, before landing a role on Ally McBeal as Ling Woo. In 1999, she appeared in Payback and in 2000, joined Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz in the film adaptation of Charlie’s Angels. She returned for the sequel in 2003. That year, she also starred in the first installment of Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill. Over the next decade, she would appear in films and television roles, including voicing a character in Kung Fu Panda and making her Broadway debut in 2010 in the Tony-winning play, God of Carnage. In 2012, Lucy joined the cast of Elementary, portraying Joan Watson to Jonny Lee Miller’s Sherlock Holmes.

Personal Life:
Lucy had a son, Rockwell Lloyd, via surrogate on Aug. 27, 2015. Lucy’s parents originally came from Beijing and Shanghai, respectively, before meeting in New York. Since 2014, she has reportedly been dating businessman, Noam Gottesman. In 1991, she underwent surgery after a breast cancer scare. She has been a spokeswoman for the Lee National Denim Day fundraiser, which gathers funds for breast cancer research and education.
