Julianne Moore (born Julie Anne Smith in Fayetteville, North Carolina on December 3, 1960) is an American–British actress, who has been active in showbiz since the early 1990s. She typically portrays emotionally troubled women and appears regularly in both independent and Hollywood films. Julianne studied theater at Boston University and began her career with television roles. From 1985 to 1988, she was a regular in the soap opera As the World Turns, earning a Daytime Emmy for her performance. She had her film debut in 1990 with Tales from the Darkside: The Movie. However, she first received critical attention with 1993’s Short Cuts, Vanya on 42nd Street (1994) and Safe (1995). But it wasn’t until she landed starring roles in the blockbuster hits Nine Months (1995) and The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) that she established herself as a leading actress in Hollywood. In the late 90s and early 2000s she earned Oscar nominations for Boogie Nights (1997), The End of the Affair (1999), Far from Heaven (2002) and The Hours (2002). More recently, in 2014, Julianne had huge success as Alma Coin in the third installment of the Hunger Games film series. The film ranks as her highest-grossing to date. Her final appearance of 2014 was one of the most acclaimed of her career as she starred in Still Alice. Her role earned her the Oscar, Golden Globe, SAG, and BAFTA awards for Best Actress. As of January 2016, Moore has committed to star in a film adaptation of Brian Selznick’s children’s novel Wonderstruck.Â

Personal Life:
Julianne Moore married actor and stage director John Gould Rubin in 1986. They had met two years earlier. However, the couple separated in 1993 with their divorce becoming final in 1995. A year later, Julianne began dating Bart Freundlich, her director on The Myth of Fingerprints. They ended up getting married in 2003 and had two children together before that: Caleb (born 1997) and Liv (born 2002). The family currently lives in Greenwich Village in Manhattan, New York City. Julianne is also politically liberal and very vocal about her views. She sits on the board of advocates for Planned Parenthood.
