Jaylen Brown (born in Marietta, Georgia on October 24, 1996) is an American college basketball player for the University of California, Berkeley’s Golden Bears. Jaylen attended Joseph Wheeler High School in Georgia, and as a senior, he helped lead his team to victory in winning the Georgia AAAAAA state championship. Jaylen hit two free throws with only .6 seconds remaining in the game, giving JWHS a 59-58 win. On Scout.com Jaylen was rated a five-star recruit — the best in his class. Rivals.com and ESPN both ranked him second behind Ben Simmons. On May 1, 2015, Jaylen committed to play for the Golden Bears at the University of California, Berkeley, under coach Cuonzo Martin. Jaylen decided to forgo the remainder of his college career and declare himself eligible for the 2016 NBA Draft. He was the No. 3 overall draft pick, going to the Boston Celtics.

Jaylen Brown grew up in Marietta, Georgia. His parents are Mechalle and Marselles Brown and he has one sibling, Quenton Brown. Jaylen knows how to play the guitar. He is also an avid chess fan, as he was captain of his middle school’s chess club. He spent his free Saturdays in college playing chess with strangers in a café in Berkeley. He was also active with Habitat For Humanity in High School and is considered an intellectual as well as an athlete.
