Christian VieriĀ (born Christian Vieri in Bologna, Italy on July 12, 1973) is a former Italian professional soccer player, who played as a centre forward for several clubs including Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Lazio and Inter Milan. Christian started his career in Torino, and for a number of years was recognized as one of the world’s best strikers. In 1999, he became the world’s most expensive player when Inter Milan paid Lazio $46 million for his services. During his playing career, Christian amassed many individual awards like the Pichichi Trophy andĀ Capocannoniere awards for league top scorer in Spain and Italy, as well asĀ Serie A Italian Footballer of the Year twice. Christian also represented his country, playing for Italy 49 times and scoring 23 times. He is recognized as Italy’s highest-ever goalscorer in FIFA World Cup, alongside Roberto Baggio and Paolo Rossi with nine goals in 9 games spanning the 1998 World Cup and 2002 World Cup.
