Ashton Eaton (born Ashton James Eaton on January 21, 1988 in Portland, Oregon), is an American Olympic athlete. Ashton is an Olympic decathlete, who holds the record for decathlon and indoor heptathlon events. He’s the second decathlete to break the 9,000-point barrier, with 9,039 points. As a decathlete, he competes in track and field events like shot put, 400m and 100m, pole vaulting, and long jump and high jump. Ashton won 5 NCAA decathlon championships at the University of Oregon, and won the first international medal of his career (silver) in the decathlon at the 2011 World Championships. After winning gold at the 2012 London Olympics, Ashton was hoping to become the second decathlete to ever win back-to-back Olympic titles by besting his own record at the 2016 Rio Olympic games.
