Ashton Eaton (born Ashton James Eaton in Portland Oregon on January, 21, 1988) is an American decathlete and Olympic champion. The track and field athlete, holds the world record in both the decathlon and indoor heptathlon events. He is the only second decathlete to break the 9,000-point barrier. Beating his own record of 9,039, Ashton set a new record with a score of 9,045. He attended the University of Oregon where he competed and won five NCAA championships. He won The Bowerman award in 2010. Ashton broke the world record in the decathlon at the Olympic Trials, before winning the gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
Best Known For:
Ashton is best known for taking home the decathlon gold model at the 2012 Summer Games in London at age 24. He was the youngest member of the U.S. decathlon team.
Personal Life:
Ashton Eaton married his University of Oregon teammate, Canadian Olympian and 2013 World pentathlon silver medalist, Brianne Theisen, one year after they both competed in the London Olympics in 2013. He is an only child and his grandfather, Jim Eaton, was a Michigan State University halfback.
