Amanda Peterson (born July 8, 1971 in Greeley, Colorado) was an American actress. Always interested in acting, Amanda made her stage debut in a production of The Sound of Music in her native Colorado. When Amanda was 9-years old, she won a role in the musical film, Annie, and appeared as a dancing extra. Amanda had important roles with guest appearances on television shows Father Murphy, Silver Spoons and Boone. In 1985, Amanda starred alongside River Phoenix and Ethan Hawke in the fantasy-fable, Explorers. Her biggest success came two years later, when she starred along with Patrick Dempsey in the 1987’s hit, Can’t Buy Me Love. Amanda became a teen idol, and appeared in the movies The Lawless Land, Listen To Me and the television film, Love and Betrayal. Amanda’s acting roles slowly diminished at the start of the 1990s. She appeared in an episode of Doogie Howser, M.D., and a handful of television movies until her final on-screen role in 1994’s WindRunner. She left the entertainment industry shortly thereafter, though she briefly modeled for a Colorado photographer in 2012. Amanda’s body was discovered in her Greeley, Colorado home on July 5, 2015. She was 43.

Amanda was married twice. She was married Joseph Robert Skutvik until their 1999 divorce. She then wed David Hartley in 2008, and had two children with him. She was an active member of the Greeeley Saddle Club, as she was an avid horse riding enthusiast.
