One of the hardest parts to deal with in an age-gap relationship is that you may not always understand one another’s references. Cher, 77, opened up about this issue with her boyfriend Alexander “AE” Edwards, 37, in a new interview with Extra on Monday, October 23. Even though she said that they can talk for hours, sometimes he doesn’t always get who she’s talking about, and he has to let her know.
Cher gushed and revealed how “happy” she’s been with Alexander. She did say that he is a little more “shy” and “reserved,” but they really clicked. “We have a great time together. We can talk music. We can talk about everything. He’s a got a great sense of humor,” he said. “We just get each other.”
Even though they “get each other,” the singer did admit that sometimes the 40-year age difference between them does show. “Sometimes I’m talking to him and he has no idea who I’m talking about… The other day, I said, ‘Do you know who, I don’t know, Clark Gable, [is]?’ Somebody said, ‘Yes, of course,’ but most of my references… He’ll look at me and go, ‘I wasn’t born yet,'” she told the outlet.
Cher and Alexander confirmed that they were dating back in November 2022. Shortly after going public, the “If I Could Turn Back Time” singer did clap back at people who dissed them for their age gap, by sharing a thought that Alexander told her. “[Love] doesn’t know math,” she wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Since their relationship was revealed nearly a year ago, Cher and Alexander have seemed very happy together. The pair have been spotted holding hands and kissing as they’ve attended different events throughout the year. At the beginning of October, Cher also posted a cute photo of herself and AE as she prepared to debut a single from her Christmas album at Paris Fashion Week.
