UPDATE (12/28/20, 10:22 PM ET): Jessie J “never said” she was “hospitalized,” after revealing her diagnosis for Ménière’s disease (an inner ear disorder) a day prior. The singer made this clear after outlets had reported that she was admitted into the hospital, since Jessie said she was in the “ear hospital” on Christmas Eve in her original diagnosis announcement. Jessie clarified this statement in an edited version of her Instagram Live video from Dec. 27, which you can watch below.
Jessie further addressed the confusion surrounding her original health announcement in the video’s caption. “Since going live I have watched the media take 3 words from this live and create a very dramatic version of the truth. I’m not surprised BUT I also know I too have the power to set the story straight,” the singer wrote underneath the video update. She continued, “I’m not posting this for sympathy. Im posting this because this is the truth. I don’t want anyone thinking I lied about what actually happened. I wasn’t aware of Menieres before now and I hope this raises awareness for all the people who have been suffering way longer or worse than I.”
ORIGINAL: Jessie J is known around the world for her beautiful, belting vocals. But over the Christmas holiday, she wasn’t sure if she would hear herself sing again. The “Domino” hitmaker, 32, revealed that she had a health scare and went into detail during her Instagram Live session with fans. “I woke up and felt like I was completely deaf in my right ear, couldn’t walk in a straight line,” she revealed to viewers.
The singer also confessed that she was planning to perform “this big Christmas show on my Instagram Live” before her hearing was in jeopardy. “Basically, I got told that I have Ménière’s syndrome,” Jessie explained. “I know that a lot of people suffer from it and I’ve actually had a lot of people reach out to me and give me great advice, so I’ve just been laying low in silence.”

Jessie also assured her fans that she was “fine” and “good” after the frightening ordeal. “It just threw me off,” she admitted. “On Christmas Eve, I was in the ear hospital going, ‘What is going on?’ But I’m glad I went early and they worked out what it was real quick and I got put on the right medicine, and I feel much better today.”
So many of Jessie’s concerned fans sent their well wishes to the singer, and even extended some sympathy for what she endured. “Everyone’s like, ‘I’m so sorry.’ It’s fine! It could be way worse,” she told her admirers. More than anything, Jessie was just so glad that her Ménière’s diagnosis was treatable. “I’m super grateful for my health,” she told fans.
Ménière’s disease often incites episodes of vertigo and hearing loss, according to the Mayo Clinic. There is no known cure for Ménière’s disease, however, medication can be prescribed to ease some of its symptoms. Fans are so happy to see Jessie doing well and steadily recovering during this difficult time.
