Dakota Johnson & Chris Martin’s Engagement Rumors: She Wears Emerald Ring

Did Dakota Johnson get a pre-Christmas wedding proposal from boyfriend Chris Martin? The actress was photographed shopping in West Hollywood and was rocking a giant emerald ring on that finger. It was a massive stone set in a delicate gold band. It’s not Dakota’s birthstone, as the emerald is for people born in May, while Dakota’s October birthstone is an opal. And it’s not a diamond like traditional engagement rings, so for now the pair’s betrothal status remains a mystery. HollywoodLife.com has reached out to reps for Dakota and Chris for comment. Chris and Dakota are extremely private when it comes to their three year romance. The 43-year-old Coldplay frontman and the 31-year-old actress were first spotted on a sushi date in L.A. in 2017. By November of that same year, Dakota attended a Coldplay concert in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The globe-trotting pair was then seen having a cozy dinner on the other side of the world at a restaurant outside Tel Aviv, Israel later that same month.

The couple appeared in a rare photograph together at Ellen DeGeneres‘ star-studded 60th birthday bash in L.A. in Feb. 2018, while talking to pal Drew Barrymore, 45. It even got legendary actress Diane Keaton‘s attention. The 74-year-old gushed about the pair during a visit by Ellen’s daytime talk show after the bash. “I’m gonna talk about Chris Martin. He was with Dakota right — they’re a couple. Got it? So, what I’m saying is — he’s gorgeous,” Keaton raved.

Even Chris’ ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow adores Dakota being his partner. “I love her,” Gwyneth told Harper’s Bazaar in Jan. 2020 of the Fifty Shades of Grey actress. “I can see how it would seem weird because it’s sort of unconventional. But I think, in this case, just having passed through it iteratively, I just adore her. I always start to think of the ampersand sign—what else can you bring in, instead of being resistant to or being made insecure by? There’s so much juice in leaning in to something like that.”

Dakota and Chris proved that they were still so in love during quarantine in the spring of 2020. The pair was photographed in a rare show of PDA while out walking their dog. Dakota wrapped her hand around Chris’ arm and had such a smitten look on her face, as the singer was all smiles. The couple even had a cute beach day in Malibu with his and Gwyneth’s children Apple, 16, and Moses, 14, on June 13. The happy yet low-key pair was last seen together on Nov. 27, in Malibu, as Dakota was behind the wheel of her classic ’66 Ford Mustang Shelby while Chris rode shotgun. Now the big question is are they engaged?
