Nasim Pedrad (born November 18, 1981) was born in Tehran, Iran to Arasteh Amani and Parviz Pedrad. She and her family moved to the United States when she was two and she was raised in Irvine, California. Nasim graduated from the UCLA School of Theater in 2003. After bit parts in several television shows, she debuted as a performer on Saturday Night Live and was the show’s first ever Middle Eastern actress. She left SNL to appear on the Fox sitcom Mulaney, which was canceled after one season.
